# Last Chance > Last Chance is the unsubscribe page and email preference center platform for Klaviyo and Shopify brands. Replace dead-end unsubscribe flows with pause options, topic and frequency preferences, and offers—while keeping one-click unsubscribe clear and compliant. Last Chance replaces dead-end Klaviyo unsubscribe pages with a branded unsubscribe page and email preference center where subscribers can pause emails, adjust topics and frequency, or accept an offer—while one-click unsubscribe stays clear and compliant. It connects to Klaviyo (OAuth) and Shopify, and reports the revenue your unsubscribers represent and the revenue you recover. Built for e-commerce brands. --- # Last Chance User Guide Welcome to the Last Chance documentation! --- # Getting Started with Last Chance Welcome to Last Chance! This guide will walk you through setting up your first unsubscribe page, customizing it to match your brand, and integrating it with your email marketing platform. ## Overview Last Chance helps you reduce unsubscribes by creating beautiful, customizable unsubscribe pages that give your subscribers options beyond just "goodbye." You can offer pause options, discount codes, and gather feedback—all while maintaining brand consistency. ## Prerequisites Before you begin, you'll need: - A Klaviyo account with API access - Your email templates in Klaviyo (flows, campaigns, or universal content) - (Optional) A discount code to offer subscribers who stay --- ## Step 1: Initial Setup Wizard When you first log in, you'll be greeted by the **Initial Setup Wizard**. This guides you through connecting your essential integrations. ![Setup Wizard Welcome](/docs/screenshots/getting-started-setup-wizard-welcome.png) ### Connect Klaviyo 1. Click **Get Started** to begin the setup process 2. On the Klaviyo connection step, click **Connect Klaviyo** ![Setup Wizard - Connect Klaviyo](/docs/screenshots/getting-started-setup-wizard-klaviyo.png) 3. You'll be redirected to Klaviyo to authorize the connection 4. Grant Last Chance permission to access your account 5. After authorization, you'll be redirected back to Last Chance > **Why Klaviyo?** Last Chance integrates directly with Klaviyo to: > > - Manage subscription status changes > - Track profile data > - Set up Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page for automatic redirects > - Sync your subscriber count for billing ### Skip or Complete Later If you're not ready to connect integrations, you can: - Click **Skip** to move to the next step - Click **Skip Setup** to skip the wizard entirely You can always complete setup later from **Settings → Email Providers**. --- ## Step 2: Create Your First Unsubscribe Page Once setup is complete, you're ready to create your first unsubscribe page. ### Navigate to Unsubscribe Pages 1. From the dashboard, click **Unsubscribe Pages** in the left sidebar 2. Click **Create New Page** ![Unsubscribe Pages List](/docs/screenshots/getting-started-pages-list.png) 3. Give your page a name (e.g., "Main Unsubscribe Page") ![Create New Page](/docs/screenshots/getting-started-create-page.png) ### Understanding the Editor ![Page Editor](/docs/screenshots/getting-started-page-editor.png) The page editor has three main areas: | Area | Purpose | | -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- | | **Preview Panel** | See your page as subscribers will see it | | **Settings Sidebar** | Configure colors, fonts, discount codes, and more | | **Visual Editor** | Edit HTML/CSS directly with the GrapesJS WYSIWYG editor | ### Editor Modes You can switch between different editing modes: 1. **Settings Mode** - Configure theme colors, fonts, discount codes, and integration settings 2. **Edit Page Mode** - Use the visual drag-and-drop editor to modify page layout and content 3. **AI Assistant** - Use natural language to describe changes you want to make (e.g., "Make the button blue" or "Add more spacing") --- ## Step 3: Customize Your Page ### Using the Settings Sidebar ![Settings Sidebar](/docs/screenshots/getting-started-settings-sidebar.png) The Settings sidebar lets you customize: #### Theme Configuration - **Primary Color** - Main accent color for buttons and highlights - **Secondary Color** - Supporting color for backgrounds and borders - **Font Family** - Choose from available web fonts - **Shop URL** - Link to your store for "Shop Instead" buttons #### Page Content Switch between different page states to customize: - **Initial Page** - What subscribers see first - **Stay Subscribed** - Confirmation when they choose to stay - **Unsubscribed** - Confirmation when they unsubscribe - **Paused** - Confirmation when they pause emails #### Segment experiences and smart offers In **Settings** mode, you can go beyond a single layout for everyone: 1. **Segment experience** — Create one or more named experiences, each identified by a stable **key** (lowercase slug: letters, numbers, underscores). An optional **display label** (for example, “VIP subscribers”) is shown in the editor and in analytics pickers; the key is what rules and APIs use. 2. **Editing as** — Use the **Editing as** dropdown to choose **Default (canonical)** or a named experience. While a named experience is selected, changes to HTML (and optional per-screen visibility) are saved as **sparse overrides** for that key only—the default flow stays unchanged unless you edit it under Default. **Copy default → this screen** or **Copy default → all screens** seeds overrides from the canonical page; **Clear override (this screen)** removes the patch for the current screen. **Remove experience** deletes that key and its overrides. 3. **Preview** — The preview shows the **merged** result (default HTML + overrides for the selected experience). The preview toolbar can switch segment experience the same way as **Editing as** in the sidebar, so you can QA each variant without publishing. 4. **Smart offers** — Open the **Smart offers** section to define rules evaluated on the **live** unsubscribe URL (after any A/B test assignment). **First matching rule wins.** Each rule can include: - **Conditions** — All conditions on a rule must pass. You can combine fields such as page visits, times retained, order count, CLV, AOV, orders and revenue in the last 90 days, days since last order, pause state, and last action type. Context comes from Last Chance analytics and **Shopify orders synced to Last Chance** (not the Klaviyo API on each page load). If Shopify is not connected, order-based conditions will not behave usefully until you connect the app and orders are synced; behavior-only fields still work. - **Outcome** — Choose **Default (no override)** or one of your **segment experience** keys so subscribers who match the rule see that experience’s HTML overrides. You must **add at least one segment experience** (override key) before you can assign outcomes in smart-offer rules. When you save or publish, the app validates that every outcome key exists in your segment experiences. 5. **Analytics** — To report on which experience subscribers **first landed in** during a date range, use **Analytics** → **Segment experience** (and optionally **Smart offer rule ID** under Advanced filters). See the [Analytics guide](./analytics.md#segment-experience-smart-offers). **Preview and drafts** do not write production “page visit” analytics; only traffic on the public unsubscribe URL does. That keeps editor and email preview traffic out of retention metrics. ### Using the Visual Editor For more control over your page design: 1. Click **Edit Page** in the header 2. The GrapesJS visual editor opens 3. Drag components from the left panel 4. Click elements to edit their content 5. Use the style panel to adjust CSS properties 6. Click **Save** when done (or press `Ctrl+S`) ### Available Components The visual editor includes custom components designed for unsubscribe pages: | Component | Description | | --------------------------- | ---------------------------------------- | | **Stay Subscribed Button** | Keeps the subscriber on your list | | **Unsubscribe Button** | Processes the unsubscribe request | | **Pause Emails Button** | Opens pause duration options | | **Pause Modal** | Modal for selecting pause duration | | **Unsubscribe Reason Form** | Collects feedback on why they're leaving | | **Paused Until Display** | Shows when emails will resume | ### Direct HTML/CSS Editing For advanced customization: 1. In the Settings sidebar, navigate to the **HTML/CSS** tab 2. Edit the raw HTML and CSS directly 3. Use template variables like `{{discount_code}}` for dynamic content 4. Click **Save as new Draft** to preserve your changes --- ## Step 4: Create a Discount Code Offering a discount can significantly increase subscriber retention. Last Chance makes it easy to create and display discount codes. ### Creating a Discount Code in Last Chance 1. In the page editor, open the **Settings** sidebar 2. Scroll to **Discount Code** section 3. Click **Create New Discount** ![Create Discount Code](/docs/screenshots/getting-started-discount-code-create.png) Fill in the discount details: | Field | Description | | -------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Title** | Internal name for the discount | | **Discount Code** | The code subscribers will enter (or click "Generate" for a unique code) | | **Source** | Where to store the code (Local Database) | | **Discount Type** | Percentage or Fixed Amount | | **Discount Value** | The discount amount (e.g., 20 for 20% off) | | **Start Date** | When the discount becomes active | | **Limit to one use** | Whether each customer can only use it once | 4. Click **Create Discount** 5. The discount will automatically be linked to your page ### Important: Mirror the Discount in Your E-commerce Platform > ⚠️ **Critical Step**: For the discount to work at checkout, you must create a matching discount code in your e-commerce platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.) with the exact same code. In your e-commerce platform: 1. Navigate to your discount codes section 2. Create a new discount with the **exact same code** you created in Last Chance 3. Configure the same discount type and value 4. Set any additional restrictions (minimum purchase, product exclusions, etc.) ### Displaying the Discount The discount code will automatically appear on your unsubscribe page using the `{{discount_code}}` template variable. You can customize how it's displayed in the visual editor. --- ## Step 5: Publish Your Page Once you're happy with your page, it's time to publish it. ### Save Your Changes 1. If you have unsaved changes, click **Save as new Draft** 2. Your changes are saved as a new version ### Publish the Version 1. Click the **Publish Version** button in the header 2. The page status changes from "Draft" to "Live" 3. Your page is now visible to subscribers ### Version History Every time you save, a new version is created. You can: - View all versions from the **More Options (⋮) → Versions** menu - Preview any previous version - Revert to a previous version if needed --- ## Step 6: Set Up Klaviyo Unsubscribe Hosted Page The final step is to configure a Klaviyo **unsubscribe** hosted page that redirects unsubscribes to your Last Chance page. ### Quick Setup 1. Navigate to **Settings → Email Providers → Klaviyo → Unsubscribe Hosted Page Setup** in your dashboard 2. Follow the interactive step-by-step guide to complete the setup 3. The guide provides personalized HTML code with your unique team ID (requires authentication) > 📖 **For detailed instructions and troubleshooting**, see the [Klaviyo Unsubscribe Hosted Page Setup Guide](./klaviyo-hosted-page-setup.md) > > **Email templates:** Use Klaviyo’s unsubscribe tag (or personalization menu) in campaigns and flows so clicks use your consent / hosted page flow. Step-by-step for tags and preference links: [Klaviyo unsubscribe and preference links in emails](./klaviyo-email-links-and-consent-pages.md). ### Overview The Klaviyo **unsubscribe** hosted page setup allows you to: - Automatically redirect all unsubscribe requests to your Last Chance page - Pass through all tracking parameters (email, Klaviyo ID, campaign ID, flow ID, etc.) - Avoid updating individual unsubscribe links in email templates The setup guide in your dashboard includes: - Step-by-step instructions with screenshots - Personalized HTML code (with your team ID) - Copy-to-clipboard functionality for easy setup --- ## Step 7 (Recommended): Klaviyo preference center hosted page We recommend that subscribers who click **manage preferences** in Klaviyo land on your Last Chance **preferences** screen (not only the main unsubscribe entry). Add a **second** hosted page that uses the same script with `data-entry="preferences"`, then assign it in Klaviyo’s consent settings for the preference-center flow. See the [Klaviyo Preference Center Setup Guide](./klaviyo-preference-center-setup.md) for full steps. Your dashboard (**Settings → Email Providers → Klaviyo**) includes a second HTML snippet and setup notes. Add **manage preferences** links in templates as described in [Klaviyo unsubscribe and preference links in emails](./klaviyo-email-links-and-consent-pages.md). --- ## Setup Checklist Use the built-in checklist to track your progress: ![Setup Checklist](/docs/screenshots/getting-started-setup-checklist.png) | Step | Description | Status | | ------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------ | | **Customize Page** | Design and customize your unsubscribe page | ☐ | | **Add Discount Code** | Set up a discount code to encourage subscribers to stay | ☐ | | **Publish Page** | Make your page live and visible to subscribers | ☐ | | **Set Up Klaviyo Unsubscribe Hosted Page** | Configure Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page to redirect to your Last Chance page | ☐ | | **Preference center (recommended)** | Second hosted page for manage-preferences → Last Chance preferences | ☐ | Access the checklist by clicking on the **Setup Progress** badge in the page editor header. --- ## Next Steps Congratulations! Understanding the subscriber experience helps you design effective unsubscribe pages that maximize retention. ## Overview When subscribers click the unsubscribe link in your emails, they're taken to a Last Chance unsubscribe page instead of being immediately removed from your list. This page gives them options beyond just "goodbye," helping you retain more subscribers while respecting their preferences. ## The Unsubscribe Journey The subscriber experience follows a simple flow: 1. **Initial Page** - Subscriber arrives and sees options 2. **Action Taken** - Subscriber chooses to stay, unsubscribe, pause, or manage preferences 3. **Confirmation** - Subscriber sees a confirmation page based on their choice ## Which page do subscribers land on first? Not every visit starts on the **Initial** page. Last Chance picks the first screen based on the subscriber's **current status in Klaviyo** (and any recent actions they took on your Last Chance page): | First screen | When subscribers see it | | ---------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Initial** | They are still subscribed to your list / email marketing in Klaviyo, and have not recently unsubscribed via your Last Chance page | | **Unsubscribed** | They already unsubscribed—either on a previous Last Chance visit, via Klaviyo's one-click unsubscribe in an email, or another change in Klaviyo | | **Paused** | They previously chose **Pause emails** and the pause period has not expired | **Examples:** - A subscriber clicks **Unsubscribe** in your email footer, completes unsubscribe on Last Chance, then clicks the footer link again later → they land on **Unsubscribed** (not Initial). - A subscriber uses Klaviyo's **quick unsubscribe** in an email (without visiting Last Chance), then later clicks your footer link → they land on **Unsubscribed** so you do not offer retention options to someone who already left. - A subscriber unsubscribes on Last Chance, then an admin **resubscribes** them in Klaviyo, then they click the footer link again → they land on **Initial** again. After someone takes an action on Last Chance (stay, unsubscribe, resubscribe, pause, etc.), Last Chance trusts that choice for about **15 minutes** without re-checking Klaviyo, so the confirmation screen stays stable during the same visit. If a subscriber is paused, **Paused** always takes priority over subscribed/unsubscribed. --- ## Initial Page When a subscriber first arrives at your unsubscribe page, they see the **Initial** state: ![Initial Unsubscribe Page](/docs/screenshots/unsub-page-initial.png) ### What Subscribers See - **Headline** - Your custom message (e.g., "Wait, stay with us!") - **Description** - Brief explanation of what they'll get by staying - **Action Buttons** - Four main options: - **Stay Subscribed** (or "Get My Reward") - Keeps them on your list - **Manage Email Preferences** - Customize email frequency and topics - **Pause Emails** - Temporarily stops emails - **Unsubscribe** - Removes them from your list ### Design Elements - **Brand Colors** - Matches your brand identity - **Custom Messaging** - Personalized copy that resonates with your audience - **Discount Offers** - Special incentives to encourage staying - **Professional Design** - Builds trust and credibility ### Personalized experiences (smart offers) If you configure **segment experiences** and **smart-offer rules** in the page editor, Last Chance evaluates rules when each subscriber loads the live page (using your published HTML plus Last Chance and Shopify-backed context). The **first rule that matches** determines whether they see the **default** page or a **named experience**—HTML overrides you attached to that experience key for Initial and follow-on screens. Subscribers who do not match any rule see the canonical default flow. For how to set up keys, overrides, and rules in the dashboard, see [Getting Started — Segment experiences and smart offers](./getting-started.md#segment-experiences-and-smart-offers). For analytics by first landing experience, see [Analytics — Segment experience](./analytics.md#segment-experience-smart-offers). --- ## Stayed Subscribed When a subscriber clicks "Stay Subscribed" or "Get My Reward," they see a confirmation page: ![Stayed Subscribed Page](/docs/screenshots/unsub-page-stayed.png) ### What Happens - Subscriber remains on your email list - They receive an exclusive discount code (if configured) - They see a "Shop Now" button to visit your store - The discount code is automatically applied to the shop URL ### Key Features - **Discount Code Display** - Prominently shows the code they can use - **Copy Button** - Easy way to copy the code to clipboard - **Validity Period** - Shows how long the discount is valid - **Call-to-Action** - Direct link to shop with discount applied This page turns a potential unsubscribe into a conversion opportunity. --- ## Unsubscribed If a subscriber chooses to unsubscribe, they see a confirmation page with an optional feedback form: ![Unsubscribed Page](/docs/screenshots/unsub-page-unsubscribed.png) ### What Happens - Subscriber is removed from your email list - They see a friendly confirmation message - They can optionally provide feedback on why they're leaving - They have the option to resubscribe immediately ### Feedback Collection The unsubscribe page includes a feedback form with common reasons: - Too many emails - Emails not relevant to me - I never signed up - I prefer other channels - Content quality issues - Other (with free-text input) This feedback helps you: - Understand why subscribers are leaving - Improve your email strategy - Reduce future unsubscribes ### Resubscribe Option Even after unsubscribing, subscribers can immediately resubscribe using the "Subscribe Again" button, making it easy for them to change their mind. --- ## Manage Email Preferences When a subscriber clicks "Manage Email Preferences," they're taken to a preferences page where they can customize their email experience. ### What Subscribers See - **Frequency Selection** - Radio buttons to choose email frequency: - Weekly - Monthly - Quarterly - (Customizable options based on your settings) - **Topic Selection** - Choose which email types they want. Depending on your page settings, subscribers see either: - **Multiple topics (checkboxes)** — select any combination of topics (default) - **Single topic (radio buttons)** — pick exactly one topic - Common options include Promotions & Sales, New Products, Newsletters, Educational Content, and Events & Launches (customizable in your settings) - **Save Buttons** - Separate buttons to save frequency and topics - **Success Messages** - Confirmation when preferences are saved ### What Happens - Subscriber remains on your email list - Their Klaviyo profile is updated with their preferences - They can update preferences anytime by returning to the page - Their preferences are remembered for future visits ### Benefits of Preferences - **Better Engagement** - Subscribers receive emails they actually want - **Higher Retention** - Customization reduces unsubscribe rates - **Respectful** - Shows you care about their inbox preferences - **Flexible** - Subscribers can change preferences anytime This option is ideal for subscribers who want to stay but want more control over their email experience. --- ## Paused Emails When a subscriber chooses to pause emails, they see a confirmation page: ![Paused Emails Page](/docs/screenshots/unsub-page-paused.png) ### What Happens - Emails are paused for a specified duration (e.g., 1 month, 3 months) - Subscriber remains on your list but won't receive emails during the pause period - They see when emails will automatically resume - They can resume emails early if they want ### Benefits of Pausing - **Better than Unsubscribing** - Keeps the subscriber on your list - **Respects Preferences** - Shows you care about their inbox - **Automatic Resume** - No action needed when the pause period ends - **Flexible** - Subscriber can resume anytime This option is particularly valuable for subscribers who feel overwhelmed but don't want to leave permanently. --- ## Resubscribed If a previously unsubscribed subscriber chooses to resubscribe, they see a welcome back page: ![Resubscribed Page](/docs/screenshots/unsub-page-resubscribed.png) ### What Happens - Subscriber is added back to your email list - They see a welcoming message - They can continue shopping with any available discounts ### Second Chances The resubscribe option gives you the opportunity to: - Win back subscribers who changed their mind - Show appreciation for their return - Continue the relationship --- ## Key Features for Subscribers ### Mobile-Friendly Design All unsubscribe pages are fully responsive and work seamlessly on: - Desktop computers - Tablets - Mobile phones ### Fast Loading Pages load quickly to provide a smooth experience, even on slower connections. ### Secure and Trustworthy - HTTPS encryption - Clear branding - Professional appearance - Privacy-respecting design ### Accessible Pages are designed to be accessible to all users, including those using screen readers and other assistive technologies. --- ## Customization Options As a Last Chance customer, you own and are responsible for everything on your unsubscribe page. You can customize: - **Colors** - Match your brand colors - **Fonts** - Use your brand typography - **Messaging** - Write custom copy for each state - **Discount Codes** - Set up exclusive offers - **Page Layout** - Design the layout that works best for your audience Templates provide a starting point; the final content, wording, and design are yours. Ensure your published page always includes a clear, obvious way for subscribers to unsubscribe (for example, a visible "Unsubscribe" button or link). See the [Getting Started Guide](./getting-started.md) for details on customizing your unsubscribe pages. --- ## Best Practices ### Clear Messaging - Use friendly, conversational language - Explain the value of staying subscribed - Make it easy to understand the options ### Compelling Offers - Offer meaningful discounts (15-25% off works well) - Make the offer exclusive to unsubscribe page visitors - Show the discount code prominently ### Respectful Design - Don't use dark patterns or tricks - **Provide a clear, obvious way to unsubscribe** — Subscribers must be able to find and use an unsubscribe option without confusion. Make it easy to unsubscribe if they want to. - Provide clear feedback on what each action does ### Accurate consent language You control all wording on your unsubscribe page—headlines, button labels, and confirmation messages. Make sure that copy **accurately reflects what will happen** in your email platform (e.g. Klaviyo): - **Unsubscribe** — Removes the subscriber from your list(s), or globally if no lists are linked. They will not receive marketing emails until they resubscribe. - **Pause emails** — Stops marketing emails until the date they chose (or until they click to resume). They remain on your list. - **Manage preferences** — Saves their frequency and topic choices; those preferences can be used in your email platform for segmentation and targeting. Clear, accurate language builds trust and ensures subscribers aren’t surprised by what happens after they click. Choices on this page apply **only to your brand** and the lists or channels you’ve connected—they are not shared with or applied to other companies. ### Test Different Approaches - Try different headlines and copy - Test different discount amounts - Use A/B testing to find what works best See the [A/B Testing Guide](./ab-testing.md) for more on testing your pages. --- ## Understanding the Impact ### Retention Rate The retention rate shows what percentage of visitors choose to stay subscribed rather than unsubscribe. A good retention rate is typically: - **20%+** - Good - **40%+** - Great - **60%+** - Excellent ### Conversion Opportunities Even subscribers who unsubscribe can still: - Provide valuable feedback - Resubscribe later - Visit your shop with a discount ### Customer Relationships The unsubscribe page is often the last interaction you have with a subscriber. Making it positive and respectful: - Maintains brand reputation - Leaves the door open for future engagement - Shows you value their preferences --- ## Next Steps - [Getting Started Guide](./getting-started.md) - Set up your first unsubscribe page - [User Preferences Guide](./user-preferences.md) - Learn about the preferences feature - [Analytics Guide](./analytics.md) - Track how subscribers interact with your pages - [A/B Testing Guide](./ab-testing.md) - Optimize your pages for better retention --- # User Preferences Feature ## Overview The User Preferences feature allows subscribers to customize their email experience directly from your unsubscribe page. Instead of unsubscribing, subscribers can: - **Adjust email frequency** - Choose how often they receive emails (weekly, monthly, etc.) - **Select email topics** - Choose which types of emails they want to receive (one or many, depending on your page setting) - **Stay subscribed** - Remain on your list with their preferred settings This feature helps you retain more subscribers by giving them control over their email experience. ## How It Works ### Subscriber Experience 1. **Initial Page** - When a subscriber clicks unsubscribe, they see your initial page with options 2. **Preferences Page** - If they click "Manage Email Preferences", they're taken to a preferences page 3. **Customization** - They can: - Select their preferred email frequency (e.g., weekly, monthly) - Choose which email topics they want (e.g., promotions, newsletters, updates)—one or multiple, depending on your page's topic selection mode - Save their preferences 4. **Confirmation** - After saving, they see a success message and remain subscribed ### Behind the Scenes When preferences are saved: 1. **Klaviyo Profile Updated** - The subscriber's Klaviyo profile is updated with: - `email_frequency` - Their selected frequency - `email_topics` - Comma-separated list of selected topics - `stay_subscribed` - Set to `true` 2. **Database Storage** - Preferences are stored in the database for: - Analytics tracking - Pre-filling preferences on future visits - Reporting and insights 3. **Analytics Events** - Separate events are tracked depending on how preferences were saved: - `ACTION_SAVED_FREQUENCY` / `ACTION_SAVED_TOPICS` - When saved on the unsubscribe page - `ACTION_ONE_CLICK_SAVED_FREQUENCY` / `ACTION_ONE_CLICK_SAVED_TOPICS` - When saved via a one-click link from an email ## Setting Up Preferences ### 1. Configure Frequency Options Go to **Settings → User Preferences → Frequencies tab**: - Add or edit frequency options (e.g., "Weekly", "Monthly", "Quarterly") - Set the number of days for each frequency - Reorder options by dragging - Enable/disable specific options ### 2. Configure Topic Options Go to **Settings → User Preferences → Topics tab**: - Add or edit topic options (e.g., "Promotions", "Newsletters", "Product Updates") - Customize labels for each topic - Reorder options by dragging - Enable/disable specific options ### 3. Create Topic Exclusion Segments (Klaviyo) In the Topics tab, scroll to the **Segments** section. Create topic exclusion segments for each topic. These segments contain subscribers who have opted out of that topic. In Klaviyo campaigns and flows: - **Send to:** Use any main segment (e.g., "All Subscribers", "Newsletter List") - **Don't send to:** Add the **matching** topic exclusion segment—the one that corresponds to the type of email you're sending (e.g., for a newsletter campaign, add `LC - Exclude Topic: Newsletters`; for a sales campaign, add `LC - Exclude Topic: Sales & Discounts`) This lets you use your existing segments while respecting subscriber topic preferences. ### 4. Create Frequency Exclusion Segments (Klaviyo) In the Frequencies tab, scroll to the **Segments** section. Create frequency exclusion segments for each frequency. These segments contain subscribers who chose a less-frequent option. In Klaviyo campaigns and flows: - **Send to:** Use any main segment - **Don't send to:** Add **every** LC - Exclude Frequency segment (e.g., `LC - Exclude Frequency: Weekly`, `LC - Exclude Frequency: Monthly`, etc.)—you need all of them to enforce frequency limits across your audience ### 5. Add Preferences Page to Your Unsubscribe Page In your unsubscribe page editor: 1. Add a "Manage Email Preferences" button with `data-action="go-to-preferences"` 2. Create a preferences page using the template variables: - Use `{{preferencesFrequencies}}` to automatically generate frequency selection options - Use `{{preferencesTopics}}` to automatically generate topic selection options - Add save buttons with `data-action="save-frequency"` and `data-action="save-topics"` #### Topic selection mode (per page) In the page editor, open **Settings → Subscriber preferences → Topic selection**: - **Multiple topics (checkboxes)** — default; subscribers can select any combination of topics - **Single topic (radio buttons)** — subscribers pick exactly one topic Topic options themselves are still configured team-wide under **Settings → User preferences → Topics**. The page setting only controls whether subscribers can pick one or many. When single-topic mode is enabled, headings and button labels on the preferences page use singular copy (e.g., "Email Topic", "Save Topic") automatically. **Example preferences page HTML:** ```html

Email Frequency

How often would you like to hear from us?

{{preferencesFrequencies}}

Email Topics

What would you like to hear about?

{{preferencesTopics}}
``` The template variables automatically generate the correct HTML form elements based on your configuration: - **Frequency** — radio buttons from your team-wide frequency configs - **Topics** — checkboxes when the page uses multiple-topic mode (default), or radio buttons when the page uses single-topic mode This ensures consistency and makes it easy to update options across all pages. In single-topic mode, section titles and save button labels may use singular copy automatically. > **Note:** For advanced use cases where you want custom options that differ from your team-wide settings, you can manually create form elements with `name="emailFrequency"` and `name="emailTopics"`, but this is generally not recommended as it won't sync with your team configuration. ### 6. Use Preferences Components The page editor includes built-in components: - **Frequency Options** - Pre-built frequency selection component (uses `{{preferencesFrequencies}}`) - **Topic Options** - Pre-built topic selection component (uses `{{preferencesTopics}}`) - **Preferences Frequencies** - Full preferences page with frequency options - **Preferences Topics** - Full preferences page with topic options ## Template Variables When building custom preferences pages, use these template variables: ### Frequency Variables - `{{preferencesFrequencies}}` - Automatically generates HTML for frequency selection (radio buttons) based on your team's frequency configs - The generated HTML includes proper form structure with `name="emailFrequency"` attributes - Options are automatically pulled from your team-wide frequency configuration ### Topic Variables - `{{preferencesTopics}}` - Automatically generates HTML for topic selection based on your team's topic configs and the page's topic selection mode - **Multiple topics** (default): checkboxes (`name="emailTopics"`) - **Single topic**: radio buttons (`name="emailTopics"`) - Options are automatically pulled from your team-wide topic configuration ### Other Variables - `{{selectedFrequency}}` - Currently selected frequency (if user has saved preferences) - used by `PreferencesInitializer` component - `{{selectedTopics}}` - Array of currently selected topics (if user has saved preferences) - used by `PreferencesInitializer` component ## Best Practices ### 1. Make Preferences Easy to Find - Place the "Manage Email Preferences" button prominently on your initial page - Use clear, action-oriented text like "Manage Email Preferences" or "Customize My Emails" ### 2. Keep Options Simple - Limit frequency options to 3-5 choices - Limit topic options to 5-7 choices - Use clear, descriptive labels ### 3. Provide Defaults - Pre-select the most common frequency option - **Multiple topics:** pre-select all topics by default (users can uncheck what they don't want) - **Single topic:** pre-select the first topic by default ### 4. Choose single vs. multiple topics - Use **multiple topics** when subscribers may want several content types (e.g., promotions + newsletters) - Use **single topic** when categories are mutually exclusive or you want a clear primary preference (e.g., "Which line of business do you care about?") ### 5. Show Success Feedback - Display a clear success message after saving - Confirm what was saved (e.g., "Your preferences have been saved!") ### 6. Allow Partial Updates - Users can save frequency and topics separately - Don't require both to be set at once ## Troubleshooting ### Preferences Not Saving - Check that the save button has the correct `data-action` attribute - Verify the API endpoint is accessible - Check browser console for errors ### Preferences Not Showing - Ensure preferences page is included in your unsubscribe page - Verify the `PreferencesInitializer` component is included - Check that saved preferences exist in the database ### Klaviyo Profile Not Updating - Verify Klaviyo integration is connected - Check that the subscriber's profile exists in Klaviyo - Review Klaviyo API logs for errors ## Related Features - [Analytics](./analytics.md) - Track preferences-related events - [Subscriber Experience](./subscriber-experience.md) - Understand the full subscriber journey - [Getting Started](./getting-started.md) - Initial setup guide --- # Settings Guide ## Overview The Settings section provides comprehensive configuration options for your Last Chance account. Deleting an unsubscribe page via API key requires `confirm=true`. For authentication details, scopes, and example `curl` requests, see the **[API Keys guide](/docs/api-keys)**. ### Reward Delivery Configure how discount codes are delivered to subscribers. **Location:** Settings → Reward Delivery **Features:** - Select reward delivery mode: - **Immediate** - Discount code shown immediately on the page - **Delayed** - Discount code sent via email later **Delivery Modes:** 1. **Immediate (IMMEDIATE)** - Discount code is displayed on the unsubscribe page - Subscriber can copy and use immediately - Best for: Instant gratification, higher conversion 2. **Delayed (DELAYED)** - Discount code is sent via email after the subscriber stays - Creates anticipation and follow-up opportunity - Best for: Email engagement, reducing code sharing **Usage:** The selected delivery mode affects which elements are shown on your unsubscribe page templates. Elements with `data-reward-mode="immediate"` are shown for immediate delivery, and elements with `data-reward-mode="delayed"` are shown for delayed delivery. ### Discount Codes Manage discount codes for your unsubscribe pages. **Location:** Settings → Discount Codes **Features:** - Create new discount codes - Edit existing discount codes - Delete discount codes - View code usage statistics - Set codes as active/inactive **Discount Code Types:** 1. **Shopify Discount Codes** - Automatically synced from Shopify - Can be used in Shopify checkout - Requires Shopify integration 2. **Manual Discount Codes** - Created manually in Last Chance - Can be used with any e-commerce platform - Requires manual setup in your platform **Best Practices:** - Create multiple codes for A/B testing - Use descriptive names for easy identification - Set expiration dates to encourage urgency - Monitor usage to optimize discount amounts ## Best Practices ### 1. Start with Defaults - Initialize default configs when first setting up - Customize based on your specific needs - Test with a small group before rolling out ### 2. Keep Options Manageable - Limit frequency options to 3-5 choices - Limit topic options to 5-7 choices - Too many options can overwhelm subscribers ### 3. Use Clear Labels - Use descriptive, action-oriented labels - Avoid technical jargon - Make it clear what each option means ### 4. Test Pause Methods - Start with PROFILE_PROPERTY for flexibility - Add SUPPRESSION if you need Klaviyo-native suppression - Use UNSUBSCRIBE for list-specific control ### 5. Monitor Usage - Check analytics to see which options are most popular - Adjust configs based on subscriber behavior - Remove unused options to simplify ## Troubleshooting ### Configs Not Showing - Ensure configs are initialized (use the initialize action) - Check that configs are enabled (`isActive: true`) - Verify you're viewing the correct team ### Segments Not Creating - Create segments from Settings → User Preferences → Topics or Frequencies tab → Segments section - Check Klaviyo connection status (Settings → Email Providers → Klaviyo) - Verify API permissions in Klaviyo - Review error logs for API issues ### Pause Not Working - Verify pause methods are enabled in team settings - Check Klaviyo profile properties are being set - Review pause duration configs are active ## Related Documentation - [User Preferences](./user-preferences.md) - How subscribers use preferences - [Getting Started](./getting-started.md) - Initial setup guide - [Analytics](./analytics.md) - Track settings usage --- # Analytics Guide Last Chance provides comprehensive analytics to help you understand how subscribers interact with your unsubscribe pages. This guide covers all analytics features and how to use them effectively. ## Overview The Analytics dashboard tracks every interaction subscribers have with your unsubscribe pages, giving you insights into: - How many subscribers visit your pages - What actions they take (stay, unsubscribe, pause) - Why they're leaving (unsubscribe reasons) - Your overall retention rate --- ## Accessing Analytics 1. From the dashboard, click **Analytics** in the left sidebar 2. The Analytics page displays all events and summary statistics ![Analytics Main Page](/docs/screenshots/analytics-main-page.png) --- ## Key Metrics ### Retention Rate The **Retention Rate** shows what share of **unique visitors** (subscribers with at least one page visit, identified by email hash) **did not unsubscribe** in the same scope—your filters on Analytics, or all-time on the dashboard home. ``` Retention = (Unique visitors − Visitors who unsubscribed) ÷ Unique visitors × 100 ``` The dashboard headline percentage and weekly summary email use this **same visitor definition**. The **Stayed** event count in Analytics is how many people clicked “stay”; retention can differ because it includes visitors who never clicked stay or unsub. If your current Analytics view has **no identifiable page visits** (for example, the event-type filter excludes `PAGE_VISIT`), the retention percentage falls back to the legacy ratio: stay events ÷ (stay + unsubscribed events). ### Event Types Last Chance tracks ten types of events: | Event Type | Icon | Description | | --------------------- | ---- | ------------------------------------------------- | | **Page Visit** | 👁️ | A subscriber visited your unsubscribe page | | **Stayed** | ✓ | Subscriber clicked "Stay Subscribed" | | **Unsubscribed** | ✗ | Subscriber confirmed they want to unsubscribe | | **Resubscribed** | + | A previously unsubscribed user opted back in | | **Shop Button Click** | 🛒 | Subscriber clicked a shop/discount link | | **Paused Emails** | ⏸ | Subscriber chose to pause emails temporarily | | **Resumed Emails** | ▶ | A paused subscriber resumed their subscription | | **Go to Preferences** | ⚙️ | Subscriber navigated to preferences page | | **Saved Frequency** | 📅 | Subscriber saved their email frequency preference | | **Saved Topics** | 🏷️ | Subscriber saved their email topic preferences | --- ## Summary Statistics Cards At the top of the Analytics page, you'll see summary cards showing: 1. **Retention Rate** - Share of unique page visitors in scope who did not unsubscribe (matches dashboard and weekly email) 2. **Event-specific counts** - Total counts for each enabled event type The cards update dynamically based on your selected filters. --- ## Filtering Analytics Data ### Filter by Page Use the **Page** dropdown to view analytics for: - **All Pages** - Combined data from all unsubscribe pages - **Specific Page** - Data from a single unsubscribe page ### Filter by Date Range Click the **Date Range** button to select: - **Last 7 Days** - Recent activity - **Last 30 Days** - Monthly overview - **Last 90 Days** - Quarterly trends - **All Time** - Complete history ### Filter by Event Type 1. Click the **Event Types** filter button 2. Check/uncheck event types to include 3. Click **Apply** to update the view This is useful for focusing on specific actions, like only viewing unsubscribe events. ### Search by Email To find events for a specific subscriber: 1. Enter their email address in the search field 2. Click **Apply** 3. All events for that email will be displayed > **Note**: Email addresses are hashed for privacy. You can search using the original email address. ### Segment experience (smart offers) When you use **segment experiences** (HTML overrides matched by smart-offer rules), you can slice analytics by which experience a subscriber **first landed in** during the selected date range: 1. Select a **specific unsubscribe page** in the Page dropdown (required to pick named experiences from that page’s configuration). 2. Use the **Segment experience** control: **All experiences**, **Default (canonical)**, or a named experience key (for example, VIP). 3. Optionally, under **Advanced filters**, set **Smart offer rule ID** to narrow results to subscribers whose **first page visit in range** matched both that experience and that rule. Press Enter to apply. This filter is **session-scoped**: every event row shown belongs to subscribers whose **first `PAGE_VISIT` in the range** matched the filter. You will see their full journey (stayed, paused, unsubscribed, etc.), not only rows where that event’s metadata mentions the experience. **How experience is stored on events** - **Page Visit** records the experience shown on load when smart-offer rules apply. - **Later actions** (stay, unsubscribe, pause, and others) record experience metadata by **re-evaluating** smart-offer rules at the time of the action (using the same context as the live page: orders, visits, etc.). If subscriber context changes between load and click (for example, a new order syncs), the action event may show a different experience than the original page visit. The segment filter above is still based on **first visit in range**, not on action-time metadata. **Preview mode** Editor and email preview flows do **not** write production `PAGE_VISIT` analytics. Only live traffic on the public unsubscribe URL is tracked. ### Advanced Filters Additional filter options are available: | Filter | Description | | ----------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Klaviyo ID** | Filter by Klaviyo profile ID | | **Email Message ID** | Filter by specific email message | | **Campaign ID** | Filter by Klaviyo campaign | | **Flow ID** | Filter by Klaviyo flow | | **Smart offer rule ID** | Optional; narrows segment experience filter to a specific rule id on the first qualifying page visit | Click any ID in the table to quickly filter by that value. --- ## Unsubscribe Reasons When subscribers unsubscribe, they can provide a reason. Last Chance aggregates this feedback in the **Unsubscribe Reasons** section. ### Viewing Reason Statistics When the "Unsubscribed" event type is enabled, you'll see a breakdown of: - Each reason selected - The count and percentage of each reason - A visual progress bar for comparison ### Default Reason Options Common unsubscribe reasons include: - I receive too many emails - The content isn't relevant to me - I never signed up - I'm switching to a different service - Other (with free-text input) ### Viewing "Other" Responses If subscribers select "Other" and provide custom text: 1. Find the **Other** reason in the statistics 2. Click the **View Details** button 3. A dialog shows all custom responses This qualitative feedback can help you improve your email strategy. --- ## Events Table The main events table shows detailed information about each interaction. ### Table Columns | Column | Description | | ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- | | **External Link** | Opens the subscriber's Klaviyo profile (if available) | | **Time** | When the event occurred (relative and absolute) | | **Event** | The type of event with color-coded badge | | **Email Hash** | Truncated hash of the subscriber's email | | **Reason** | Unsubscribe reason (if applicable) | | **Page** | Which unsubscribe page was used | ### Hidden Columns Additional columns can be shown via the **Columns** button: - **Klaviyo ID** - The subscriber's Klaviyo profile ID - **Flow ID** - The Klaviyo flow that sent the email - **Campaign ID** - The Klaviyo campaign that sent the email - **Email Message ID** - The specific email message ID - **Referrer** - The referring URL ### Interacting with Table Data - **Click a row** - Opens a detailed side drawer showing the complete session timeline - **Click a Klaviyo ID** - Filter by that profile - **Click a Flow ID** - Filter by that flow - **Click a Campaign ID** - Filter by that campaign - **Click External Link** - Open the profile in Klaviyo ### Session Details Drawer When you click on any row in the events table, a side drawer opens showing detailed information about that subscriber's session: ![Analytics Side Drawer](/docs/screenshots/analytics-side-drawer.png) The drawer displays: - **Outcome** - The final action taken (Stayed, Unsubscribed, etc.) - **Event Count** - Total number of events in the session - **Timeline** - Chronological list of all events with timestamps - **Session Metrics** - Duration, decision time, and other key metrics - **Event Details** - Time on page and other context for each event This detailed view helps you understand the complete customer journey through your unsubscribe page. --- ## Exporting Data Export your analytics data for further analysis: 1. Apply any filters you want 2. Click **Export CSV** in the header 3. A CSV file will download with all matching events The export includes all columns (not just visible ones): - Time - Event Type - Email Hash - Reason - Reason Other (custom text) - Page Name - Klaviyo ID - Email Message ID - Campaign ID - Flow ID - **Experience key** and **Smart offer rule ID** (when present on that event; action events use re-evaluated smart-offer context at click time) - Metadata (JSON) - Additional event-specific data: - For **Saved Frequency**: `frequency` (selected frequency value), `timeOnPageMs` - For **Saved Topics**: `topics` (comma-separated list), `topicsCount`, `topicSelectionMode` (`SINGLE` or `MULTIPLE` — page configuration at time of save), `timeOnPageMs` - For **Go to Preferences**: `timeOnPageMs`, `fromPage` (page they came from) --- ## Pagination For large datasets: - Use **Previous** and **Next** buttons to navigate - The page shows 25 events at a time - Total event count is displayed at the bottom --- ## Use Cases and Best Practices ### Track Campaign Performance 1. Send an email campaign 2. Note the Campaign ID from Klaviyo 3. Filter analytics by that Campaign ID 4. See how many recipients visited your unsubscribe page 5. Analyze retention rate for that specific campaign ### Identify Problem Flows 1. Filter by **Flow ID** 2. Compare retention rates across different flows 3. Flows with lower retention may need content improvements ### Monitor Discount Effectiveness 1. Filter for **Shop Button Clicks** 2. Compare to total Page Visits 3. Calculate click-through rate on your discount offer 4. Adjust discount value or messaging based on results ### Track Preference Adoption 1. Filter for **Go to Preferences** events to see how many subscribers explore preferences 2. Compare **Saved Frequency** and **Saved Topics** counts 3. Analyze which frequency and topic options are most popular 4. Use metadata to see time spent on preferences page 5. Identify opportunities to improve preference options ### Gather Customer Feedback 1. Review unsubscribe reasons weekly 2. Look for patterns in "Other" responses 3. Use feedback to improve email content and frequency ### A/B Test Page Designs 1. Create two unsubscribe page versions 2. Use one page for half your flows, another for the rest 3. Filter analytics by page 4. Compare retention rates to determine the winner --- ## Understanding Your Data ### Healthy Benchmarks While results vary by industry, here are general guidelines: | Metric | Good | Great | | -------------------- | ---- | ----- | | Retention Rate | 20%+ | 40%+ | | Shop Button CTR | 5%+ | 15%+ | | Reason Response Rate | 60%+ | 80%+ | ### Common Patterns **High Page Visits, Low Actions** - Subscribers may be confused by the page - Try simplifying the design or CTAs **Low Retention Rate** - Consider offering a better discount - Add pause options - Improve the "stay subscribed" messaging **Many "Too Many Emails" Reasons** - Review your email frequency - Highlight pause options more prominently - Let subscribers manage preferences **High "Content Not Relevant" Reasons** - Review your segmentation strategy - Add list preference options - Consider more personalized content --- ## Troubleshooting ### No Events Appearing - Verify your page is published - Verify the Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page is configured correctly - Allow time for events to sync (usually real-time) ### Missing Subscriber Information - Verify the Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page is passing all required parameters - Check that your Last Chance page is receiving traffic from Klaviyo ### Retention Rate Seems Wrong - Retention is based on **unique visitors** (email hashes with a `PAGE_VISIT` in scope), not raw event volume - If you filter out `PAGE_VISIT`, you may see the **legacy** stay ÷ (stay + unsubscribed) ratio instead - Compare with the **Stayed** count: many visitors can be retained without ever clicking stay --- ## Next Steps - [Getting Started Guide](./getting-started.md) - Set up your first page - [Retention Health](./retention-health.md) - Score your Klaviyo flows and segments against best practices - [Churn intelligence](./churn-intelligence.md) - At-risk segments, profile sync, and draft flows in Klaviyo - [Team Management](./team-management.md) - Share analytics with your team - [Billing & Account](./billing-account.md) - Understand your subscription tier --- # Retention Health **Retention Health** is a Klaviyo-aware checklist that scores how well your unsubscribe and preference setup is aligned with best practices. It runs automatically in the background and surfaces actionable fixes so you can close gaps before they cost you subscribers. --- ## Who can use it? Retention Health is available when your team has **Klaviyo connected**. If Klaviyo is not connected, the dashboard will not show this feature. --- ## Where to find it 1. Open the **Dashboard** in Last Chance. 2. In the left sidebar, click **Retention Health** (or go directly to `/dashboard/retention-health`). 3. You will also see a **Retention Health** summary on the main dashboard when Klaviyo is connected—use it as a quick entry point to the full page. --- ## Your score (0–100) At the top of the page you will see an overall **retention health score** from **0** to **100**. - **Higher scores** mean more checks passed and fewer issues detected. - **A perfect score (100)** means every applicable check passed—your setup matches what we recommend for protecting subscribers and keeping flows and segments in sync. - If some checks do not apply to your account (for example, you do not use delayed rewards), those checks may show as **skipped** and the score weights what actually matters for your team. Scores are **guidance**, not a guarantee of deliverability or revenue—they reflect how completely your Last Chance + Klaviyo configuration follows recommended patterns. --- ## How results are updated Last Chance **stores the latest audit** for your team so the page loads quickly. Audits refresh on a regular schedule; we also invalidate the stored result when you **publish** a page, change which page is **primary**, change **list links**, or update **Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page** completion in settings. You can use **Run audit again** (or refresh) when you want an up-to-date result—for example after you activate a flow in Klaviyo or add exclusion segments. --- ## What we check Each item is shown as a card with a status such as **pass**, **needs attention** (warning), or **action recommended**, depending on what we found in Klaviyo. | Topic | What it means | | --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | **Primary page published** | Whether the page marked **primary** has a **published** live version—the default experience your team and Klaviyo should use (other draft or non-primary pages do not satisfy this check). | | **Sunset / re-engagement** | Whether you have a live flow aimed at re-engaging subscribers who have gone quiet (often triggered by email engagement patterns). | | **Win-back** | Whether you have a flow that can reach people who unsubscribed, so you can offer a path back when it makes sense. | | **Topic exclusion segments** | Whether the **LC - Exclude Topic** segments that match your active topic preferences exist in Klaviyo, so sends can respect topic opt-outs. | | **Frequency exclusion segments** | Same idea for **LC - Exclude Frequency** segments when subscribers choose a lower email frequency. | | **Reward / delayed reward flow** | If you use a **delayed reward** (reward sent after a delay), whether the Klaviyo flow that delivers it exists and is live. | | **Preference center hosted page** | Whether you marked the **recommended** second Klaviyo hosted page (manage preferences → Last Chance) as set up in **Settings → Email Providers → Klaviyo**. | | **Post-pause welcome** | If **pause** is enabled on your pages, whether you have a flow that welcomes subscribers when they resume email after a pause. | Exact titles and descriptions on the page may vary slightly as we refine the product; the cards always explain the specific finding for **your** account. --- ## Taking action Many cards include a **button or link** that helps you fix the issue: - **Open in Klaviyo** or **Activate flow** — jumps to the relevant flow so you can turn it on or edit it. - **Create flow** — starts from Last Chance templates where we provide them (for example, retention flows aligned with our metrics). - **Settings** — deep links to the right place in Last Chance (such as **User preferences** for topic/frequency segments, or **Reward delivery** for delayed reward flows). You can work through items in any order; fixing one issue and re-running the audit will update your score when the next run completes. --- ## Relationship to Analytics, Churn intelligence, and best practices - **[Analytics](/docs/analytics)** shows **what happened** on your unsubscribe pages (visits, stays, pauses, etc.). - **Retention Health** shows **whether your Klaviyo setup** (flows, segments, primary page published) matches what those pages need to work as intended. - **[Churn intelligence](/docs/churn-intelligence)** (under **Retention**) focuses on **at-risk audiences**: it syncs profile properties to Klaviyo and lets you create **churn-related segments and draft flows**. The Retention Health report includes lighter-weight checks that churn sync is enabled and those assets exist—use the Churn intelligence page for setup and ongoing sync. For strategic ideas on offers, incentives, and messaging, see **[Retention best practices](/docs/retention-best-practices)**. --- ## Troubleshooting ### The page says it could not load the audit - Confirm **Klaviyo is connected** and your integration is healthy. - Try again in a few minutes; Klaviyo occasionally rate-limits or returns temporary errors. - Use **Run audit again** after you have made changes in Klaviyo. ### A check fails but you believe you are set up correctly - Flow names and triggers in Klaviyo vary. We detect common patterns and metric-based triggers; custom names may still pass if the **trigger behavior** matches. - If you use **draft** flows, we may warn you until they are **live**. - **Topic/frequency** checks depend on segments matching your **active** topic and frequency options in **User preferences** settings. --- ## Further reading - [Analytics](/docs/analytics) — Page-level performance and retention rate - [Churn intelligence](/docs/churn-intelligence) — At-risk segments, profile sync, and draft flows - [User preferences](/docs/user-preferences) — Topic, frequency, and pause settings that drive exclusion segments - [Retention best practices](/docs/retention-best-practices) — Offers, incentives, and messaging strategy --- # Churn intelligence **Churn intelligence** helps you identify subscribers who may be slipping away—based on Last Chance page behavior, Shopify purchase history (when connected), and Klaviyo email engagement—and gives you **ready-made Klaviyo segments** and **draft flows** so you can intervene before they unsubscribe. --- ## Who can use it? - **Klaviyo** must be connected. - **Paid access** (active subscription) is required for profile sync, creating segments/flows from Last Chance, and scheduled sync. --- ## Where to find it 1. Open the **Dashboard**. 2. Under **Retention**, choose **Churn intelligence** (or go to `/dashboard/churn-intelligence`). You’ll also see related checks inside **[Retention Health](./retention-health.md)** (for example, whether scheduled sync is on and whether churn segments and flows exist in Klaviyo). --- ## What it does 1. **Profile sync** — Last Chance writes **profile properties** to Klaviyo (for example visit counts, pause state, and Shopify-backed fields like lifetime value and days since last order when your store is connected). Sync runs on a schedule and can be run manually (**Run profile sync now**). 2. **Segments** — Create Klaviyo segments (for example **At risk**, **Severe risk**, **Lapsed buyers at risk**) whose definitions use those properties plus Klaviyo’s **Opened Email** metric where applicable. You can open each segment in Klaviyo to tune thresholds. 3. **Flows (draft)** — Create draft flows that trigger off those segments. Emails are **starters**: edit subject, content, and design in Klaviyo before activating. --- ## Shopify and Klaviyo - **Shopify:** Purchase-related properties need order data in Last Chance (historical order sync as applicable). - **Klaviyo:** Segments that use email opens need the **Opened Email** metric to exist (usually after a tracked send). --- ## Operators and troubleshooting For cron vs manual sync, worker requirements, API behavior, and asset cleanup when resources are deleted in Klaviyo, see **`docs/churn-intelligence-runbook.md`** in the Last Chance repository (operator-focused; not part of this in-app guide). --- # A/B Testing A/B testing allows you to compare different unsubscribe page designs to optimize subscriber retention. Test multiple variants simultaneously and use data-driven decisions to choose the best performing page. ## Overview With A/B testing, you can: - **Compare page designs**: Test different layouts, copy, offers, and colors - **Measure retention rates**: See which variant keeps more subscribers - **Get statistical significance**: Know when you have enough data to declare a winner - **Automatically promote winners**: Set the winning page as your primary page ## Creating an A/B Test ### Step 1: Prepare Your Pages Before creating an A/B test, you'll need at least **2 unsubscribe pages** to compare. Create your test variants: 1. Go to **Pages** in the sidebar 2. Create a new page or duplicate an existing one 3. Make the changes you want to test (design, copy, offers) 4. Repeat for each variant you want to test If you don't have enough pages yet, you'll see a message prompting you to create more: ![A/B Tests Empty State](/docs/screenshots/ab-tests-empty-state.png) ### Step 2: Create the Campaign 1. Go to **A/B Tests** in the sidebar 2. Click **New A/B Test** ![A/B Tests List View](/docs/screenshots/ab-tests-list-view.png) 3. Fill in the campaign details: - **Name**: A descriptive name (e.g., "Holiday Discount Test") - **Description**: What you're testing (optional) - **Start Date**: When to begin the test (optional - leave blank to start manually) - **End Date**: When to end the test (optional - leave blank to run indefinitely) ![Create A/B Test Form](/docs/screenshots/ab-tests-create-form.png) ### Step 3: Configure Variants Add at least 2 variants to your test: 1. **Control variant**: Your current/baseline page (marked with a crown icon) 2. **Treatment variants**: The new pages you're testing For each variant: - Select the unsubscribe page - Set the traffic weight (percentage of visitors who see this variant) - The total must equal 100% **Tip**: For a simple 50/50 test, give each variant 50% traffic. For more conservative testing, give the control 80% and the treatment 20%. ### Step 4: Start the Test Click **Create A/B Test** to save your campaign in draft mode. When you're ready: 1. Review your variant configuration 2. Click **Start Test** to begin 3. Visitors will now be randomly assigned to variants ## How Visitor Assignment Works A/B testing uses **deterministic assignment** based on visitor email: - The same visitor always sees the same variant (consistent experience) - Assignment is calculated using a hash of the email address - Weights are applied probabilistically across all visitors - No cookies or local storage required This ensures accurate measurement and a seamless user experience. ## Understanding Results ![A/B Test Results Page](/docs/screenshots/ab-tests-detail-results.png) ### Key Metrics For each variant, you'll see: | Metric | Description | | ----------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Unique Visitors** | Number of people who saw this variant | | **Retention Rate** | % who took an explicit positive action (stayed, paused, updated preferences, resumed, resubscribed) | | **Stayed** | Clicked "Stay Subscribed" | | **Paused** | Chose to pause emails temporarily | | **Updated Preferences** | Updated email frequency or topics | | **Unsubscribed** | Left your email list | ### Statistical Significance The results page shows confidence levels: - **< 95% confidence**: Not enough data yet - keep the test running - **95%+ confidence**: Statistically significant - you can trust the results - **Uplift**: How much better/worse than control (e.g., "+15% retention") **Recommendation**: Aim for at least 100 unique visitors per variant before making decisions. ### Reading the Results A successful variant will show: - Higher retention rate than control - 95%+ statistical confidence - Positive uplift percentage ## Declaring a Winner When you have statistically significant results: 1. Go to the A/B test detail page 2. Review the metrics for each variant 3. Click **Declare as Winner** on the best-performing variant 4. Confirm the action When you declare a winner: - The test is marked as **Completed** - The winning page becomes your **Primary** unsubscribe page - All visitors will now see the winning page ## Campaign Lifecycle | Status | Description | | ------------- | ------------------------------------ | | **Draft** | Not started, can still edit variants | | **Active** | Running and collecting data | | **Paused** | Temporarily stopped, can resume | | **Completed** | Finished with a declared winner | ### Managing Active Tests - **Pause**: Temporarily stop the test while keeping data - **Resume**: Continue a paused test - **Complete**: End the test without declaring a winner **Note**: Only one A/B test can be active at a time per team. ## Best Practices ### What to Test Good candidates for A/B testing: - **Headlines**: "Before you go..." vs "Wait! Special offer inside" - **Discount amounts**: 10% off vs 20% off - **Page design**: Minimalist vs feature-rich - **CTAs**: "Stay Subscribed" vs "Keep Getting Deals" - **Pause options**: Offering pause vs not offering pause ### Test Duration - **Minimum**: Run until you have 100+ visitors per variant - **Recommended**: 2-4 weeks for most email lists - **Maximum**: Don't run tests indefinitely - make decisions ### Sample Size Statistical significance depends on: - Number of visitors per variant - Difference in retention rates - Your confidence threshold (default: 95%) Use the significance indicator in results to know when you have enough data. ### One Change at a Time For clear results, test **one variable** at a time: ✅ **Good**: Testing discount amount (10% vs 20%) ❌ **Bad**: Testing discount + headline + colors simultaneously If you test multiple changes, you won't know which caused the difference. ## Notifications You'll receive email notifications for: - **Test started**: When a new A/B test begins - **Significant results**: When a variant reaches statistical significance - **Test completed**: When a winner is declared Manage these in **Settings > Notifications**. ## FAQ ### Can I edit a running test? No. Once a test is active, variants are locked to ensure data integrity. To make changes, pause or complete the test, then create a new one. ### What happens to visitors during a paused test? They see your primary unsubscribe page (not any test variant). ### Can I run multiple tests at once? No. Only one A/B test can be active at a time to prevent conflicts. ### How do I delete a test? Tests can only be deleted when in Draft, Paused, or Completed status. Active tests must be paused first. ### Does A/B testing affect my analytics? Yes! All events during a test include the campaign and variant IDs, so you can analyze performance in your analytics dashboard. --- # Page Templates Last Chance provides a variety of pre-designed templates to help you create engaging unsubscribe pages. This guide explains the different template types, what each page does, and how to customize them. **Templates are a starting point only.** You are responsible for everything that appears on your live unsubscribe page—including all copy, consent language, and the presence of a clear, obvious way for subscribers to unsubscribe. Edit and review your page before publishing to ensure it accurately reflects your brand and complies with your obligations to subscribers and your email platform. ## Overview When you create a new unsubscribe page, you can choose from our template library. Each template includes: - **Multiple page states** - Different screens for the subscriber journey - **Customizable styling** - Colors, fonts, and branding options - **Interactive elements** - Buttons, forms, and special widgets - **Mobile-responsive design** - Looks great on all devices --- ## Template Categories ### Offer Templates Simple, clean designs that present a discount offer to encourage subscribers to stay. **Best for:** Straightforward retention with a clear value proposition **Examples:** Minimal, Fresh, Bold, Sunset, Aurora ![Offer Template Example](/docs/screenshots/template-offer-example.png) --- ### Scratch-Off Templates Interactive scratch card experiences where subscribers reveal a hidden discount by "scratching" with their mouse or finger. **Best for:** Gamified engagement that increases time on page and retention rates **Examples:** Scratch Lottery, Scratch Vegas, Scratch Neon, Scratch Cosmic **How it works:** 1. Subscriber sees a scratch card with a hidden prize 2. They scratch to reveal their discount code 3. Confetti celebrates the reveal 4. They're automatically shown the "stayed" confirmation page ![Scratch Card Template Example](/docs/screenshots/template-scratch-example.png) --- ### Product Templates Showcase your products directly on the unsubscribe page, giving subscribers a reason to stay and shop. **Best for:** E-commerce brands who want to highlight specific products or bestsellers **Examples:** Shop Grid, Shop Single, Shop Upfront --- ## Page States Every template includes multiple "pages" that display at different points in the subscriber journey: ### Initial Page The first page subscribers see when they click an unsubscribe link. This is your chance to offer alternatives. **Typical elements:** - Headline asking them to reconsider - Discount offer or incentive - "Stay Subscribed" button - "Pause Emails" option - "Unsubscribe" button --- ### Stayed Page Shown when a subscriber chooses to stay subscribed. Confirms their decision and provides the discount code. **Typical elements:** - Thank you message - Discount code display - Copy code button - Link to shop --- ### Unsubscribed Page Shown after a subscriber completes the unsubscribe process. **Typical elements:** - Confirmation message - Optional feedback form (why they unsubscribed) - Option to resubscribe if they change their mind --- ### Paused Page Shown when a subscriber chooses to pause emails instead of unsubscribing. **Typical elements:** - Confirmation of pause - Display of when emails will resume - Option to resume emails early - Link back to shop --- ### Resubscribed Page Shown when a previously unsubscribed user clicks "Resubscribe." **Typical elements:** - Welcome back message - Confirmation of resubscription --- ## Customizing Templates ### Theme Settings Every template supports customization through theme settings: | Setting | Description | | ------------------- | -------------------------------------------------- | | **Primary Color** | Main accent color for buttons and highlights | | **Secondary Color** | Supporting color for text and borders | | **Font Family** | Choose from available web fonts | | **Shop URL** | Link to your store for "Continue Shopping" buttons | | **Discount Code** | The code to display and offer subscribers | ### Visual Editor For more advanced customization, use the visual editor to: - Drag and drop components - Edit text and images - Adjust spacing and layout - Modify colors and styles - Add or remove sections --- ## Interactive Components ### Scratch Card Available in scratch-off templates. Subscribers scratch to reveal their prize. **Customization options:** - Scratch layer color (silver, gold, bronze, purple, blue) - Prize text and description - Discount code displayed under the scratch layer --- ### Pause Modal When subscribers click "Pause Emails," a modal appears letting them choose how long to pause: - 1 week - 1 month - 3 months - 6 months After selecting, they see the Paused page with their resume date. --- ### Feedback Form Displayed on the Unsubscribed page to collect insights on why subscribers left: **Default options:** - Too many emails - Emails not relevant to me - I never signed up - I prefer other channels - Content quality issues - Other (with text input) This feedback helps you improve your email strategy. --- ### Copy Discount Button A small button next to discount codes that copies the code to the subscriber's clipboard. Shows "Copied!" confirmation when clicked. --- ## How Buttons and Widgets Work Understanding how interactive elements work helps you customize templates and troubleshoot issues. Last Chance uses special HTML attributes to make buttons and widgets functional. ### Action Buttons (data-action) Buttons perform actions based on their `data-action` attribute. When editing in the visual editor, make sure buttons have the correct attribute for them to work. | Action | What It Does | Example HTML | | -------------------- | --------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | `stay-subscribed` | Keeps subscriber on list, shows "Stayed" page | `` | | `unsubscribe` | Unsubscribes user, shows "Unsubscribed" page | `` | | `pause-emails` | Opens the pause duration modal | `` | | `resume-emails` | Resumes paused emails | `` | | `resubscribe` | Resubscribes a user who unsubscribed | `` | | `back-to-initial` | Returns to the initial page | `` | | `copy-discount-code` | Copies discount code to clipboard | `` | | `shop` | Opens shop link AND marks user as staying | `Shop Now` | | `back-to-shop` | Opens shop link (tracking only) | `Continue Shopping` | #### Pause Modal Buttons Inside the pause modal, these additional actions are used: | Action | What It Does | | --------------- | ------------------------------------ | | `confirm-pause` | Confirms the selected pause duration | | `cancel-pause` | Closes the modal without pausing | #### Feedback Form Buttons On the unsubscribed page feedback form: | Action | What It Does | | --------------- | --------------------------------------- | | `submit-reason` | Submits the selected unsubscribe reason | | `skip-reason` | Skips the feedback form | --- ### Widgets (data-widget) Widgets are more complex interactive components identified by `data-widget` attributes. #### Scratch Card Widget The scratch card requires a wrapper element with `data-widget="scratch-card"`: ```html
{{discountCode}}
``` **Scratch card attributes:** | Attribute | Description | Options | | ------------------------- | --------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- | | `data-scratch-text` | Main text on scratch layer | Any text | | `data-scratch-subtext` | Secondary text on scratch layer | Any text | | `data-scratch-color` | Color of the scratch layer | `silver`, `gold`, `bronze`, `purple`, `blue` | | `data-show-scratch-layer` | Whether to show the scratch layer | `true`, `false` | --- ### Template Variables Use these placeholders in your HTML - they'll be replaced with actual values: | Variable | Description | Example Output | | -------------------- | ------------------------------------ | -------------------- | | `{{discountCode}}` | The discount code for this page | `SAVE20` | | `{{shopUrl}}` | Your shop URL from settings | `https://myshop.com` | | `{{shopUrlPostfix}}` | URL suffix (often includes discount) | `/discount/SAVE20` | | `{{pausedUntil}}` | When paused emails will resume | `March 15, 2024` | **Example usage:** ```html

Your code: {{discountCode}}

Shop Now ``` --- ### Troubleshooting **Button not working?** - Check that the button has the correct `data-action` attribute - Make sure the attribute value is spelled correctly (case-sensitive) - Verify the button is not inside another clickable element **Scratch card not appearing?** - Ensure the wrapper has `data-widget="scratch-card"` - Check that there's a `` inside the wrapper - Verify `data-show-scratch-layer` is not set to `false` **Discount code not showing?** - Make sure you're using `{{discountCode}}` (with double curly braces) - Check that a discount code is configured in your page settings **Shop link not working?** - Verify you've set a Shop URL in your page settings - For `data-action="shop"` buttons, include `data-url` with the full URL - For `data-action="back-to-shop"` links, include the `href` attribute --- ## Choosing the Right Template | If you want... | Choose... | | ------------------------- | ------------------------------------ | | Clean, professional look | Offer templates (Minimal, Fresh) | | Fun, engaging experience | Scratch-off templates | | Product-focused retention | Product templates | | Dark/modern aesthetic | Neon, Bold, or Mono templates | | Bright, colorful design | Playful, Aurora, or Sunset templates | --- ## Tips for Success 1. **Match your brand** - Use your brand colors and fonts for consistency 2. **Make the offer compelling** - A good discount can significantly improve retention 3. **Keep it simple** - Don't overwhelm subscribers with too many options 4. **Test different templates** - Use A/B testing to find what works best for your audience 5. **Mobile matters** - Preview your page on mobile devices before publishing --- ## Next Steps - [Getting Started Guide](./getting-started.md) - Set up your first page - [Inline Preference Panel](./inline-preference-panel.md) - Inline pause and reduce accordion blocks - [A/B Testing](./ab-testing.md) - Test different templates and offers - [Analytics](./analytics.md) - Track how your pages perform --- # Inline Preference Panel Build a boutique-style inline accordion on your **initial** unsubscribe page: pause chips, reduce-frequency chips, and a quiet unsubscribe link with confirmation. Subscribers stay on the same page for pause and reduce actions (no separate preferences page required). ## Overview The inline preference center is one panel with three rows: | Row | Purpose | | ---------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Pause** | Accordion row with one-click pause duration chips | | **Reduce** | Accordion row with frequency chips and per-topic chips (toggle in multiple-topic mode, exclusive select in single-topic mode) | | **Leave** | “Unsubscribe from all” with arm → confirm flow | Team pause durations, frequencies, and topics come from **Settings** and are injected at runtime as chip buttons (`{{preferencesPauseChips}}`, `{{preferencesReduceChips}}`). ## Add blocks in the page editor 1. Open your unsubscribe page in the **visual editor** (GrapesJS). 2. In **Unsubscribe Components**, drag **Inline Preference Center** onto the **initial** page. 3. Edit copy on the pause, reduce, and leave rows inside the panel. 4. Save the page. Component styles are merged into your page CSS on save. ## Styling - **Theme colors:** The panel reads your page **primary** and **secondary** colors (`--primary-color`, `--secondary-color` from theme settings — the same variables as the pause modal and preferences form). Accents, chip selection, and success feedback tint from **primary**; muted text and borders mix from **secondary**. - **Saved page CSS:** Inline panel styles live in your page’s `template.css` in the database. Boutique inline templates and GrapesJS blocks include the default rules when you create or save from the editor. - **Custom branding:** Override scoped tokens on `.lc-pref-center` (e.g. `--lc-accent`, `--lc-border`) in **global styles** or custom CSS, or change **primary** / **secondary** in the page theme. - **Existing pages:** If you added panel HTML without saving block styles, open the visual editor and save once (or paste the latest rules from `lib/constants/inline-preference-panel.ts` into your page CSS). Reference markup lives at `docs/reference/boutique-preference-center.html` in the repo. ## Subscriber behavior ### Pause chips - Tap a duration chip, then confirm on the inline **Confirm pause** step (same arm → confirm pattern as quiet unsubscribe). - On confirm, emails are paused and the subscriber navigates to the **paused** confirmation page. - Uses the same `/api/unsub/pause-emails` flow as the pause modal. - **Cancel** returns to the chip list; collapsing the pause accordion also clears the confirm step. - If your team uses **SUPPRESSION** pause and the subscriber is in the 90-day cooldown, chips are disabled and a message shows time remaining. ### Reduce chips - **Frequency chips** save via `/api/unsub/save-preferences` and show an inline “All set” state on the initial page. - **Topic chips** (one per active topic) depend on the page’s **topic selection mode** (Settings → Subscriber preferences in the page editor): - **Multiple topics (default):** `toggle-reduce-topic` chips behave like checkboxes — each tap saves the updated topic list. At least one topic must stay selected. - **Single topic:** `select-topic` chips behave like radio buttons — selecting one topic deselects the others and saves immediately. - **Edit** reopens the accordion so the subscriber can pick a different frequency. - Returning subscribers with a saved frequency see the done state automatically; topic chips reflect saved topic preferences (first topic only in single-topic mode when multiple were stored historically). ### Quiet unsubscribe 1. **Or unsubscribe from all emails** arms a confirmation row. 2. **Keep me, just quieter** closes the confirmation and opens **Hear from us less** so the subscriber can pick a lower frequency or fewer topics. 3. **Unsubscribe** runs the normal unsubscribe action. ## Template variables | Variable | Replaced with | | ---------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | `{{preferencesPauseChips}}` | Pause duration chip buttons from team settings | | `{{preferencesReduceChips}}` | Frequency and per-topic chip buttons (toggle or exclusive select based on page topic selection mode) | If a team has no pause or frequency configs, placeholders are cleared (empty chips area). ## Data attributes (behavior vs. styling) Handlers and CSS use **data attributes** for behavior and UI state. **Classes** (`.opt-head`, `.chip`, `.leave`, etc.) are layout and appearance only. | Attribute | Purpose | | ----------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- | | `data-lc-panel="preference-center"` | Panel root; scopes click handling | | `data-action="toggle-opt"` | Accordion header — expand/collapse pause or reduce | | `data-lc-expanded="true"` | Option row is open (set by handler) | | `data-lc-done="true"` | Reduce frequency saved — shows “All set” row | | `data-lc-armed="true"` | Quiet unsubscribe confirmation visible | | `data-lc-cooldown="true"` | Pause suppression cooldown active | | `data-lc-chip-state` | Chip feedback: `saving`, `saved-added`, `saved-removed`, `error` | | `data-lc-part` | Structural part: `body`, `done`, `leave` | | `data-lc-pause-cooldown` | Cooldown message element (template text; not a state flag) | Chip selection uses `aria-pressed` / `aria-busy`; accordion headers use `aria-expanded`. ## Validation notes - Optional `data-action` values: `toggle-opt`, `pause-for-duration`, `confirm-pause-inline`, `pause-cancel`, `select-frequency`, `toggle-reduce-topic`, `select-topic`, `unsubscribe-arm`, `unsubscribe-cancel`, `edit-reduce`. ## Related docs - [User Preferences](/docs/user-preferences) — Configure frequencies, topics, and pause durations - [Page Templates](/docs/page-templates) — Other template types and page states - [Subscriber Experience](/docs/subscriber-experience) — End-to-end subscriber journey --- # Retention Best Practices A well-optimized unsubscribe page can dramatically reduce churn and recover revenue. This guide covers proven strategies for turning would-be unsubscribers into retained customers. --- ## Understanding Your Retention Cohorts Your Revenue Impact dashboard splits retained visitors into two groups: - **Chose to Stay**: Visitors who clicked Stay, Paused emails, or updated their preferences. These are high-signal saves—the subscriber actively chose to remain. - **Left Without Unsubscribing**: Visitors who landed on your page but left without completing unsubscribe. They stayed subscribed by default. Both cohorts contribute to recovered revenue, but improving your **"Chose to Stay" rate** gives you more control and stronger engagement signals. --- ## Discount & Incentive Strategies ### Choosing the Right Discount | Discount Type | Best For | Example | | ---------------- | --------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- | | Percentage off | Higher AOV stores | "Stay and get 15% off your next order" | | Fixed amount off | Lower AOV stores | "Here's $10 off just for staying" | | Free shipping | Stores with shipping costs as a barrier | "Stay and enjoy free shipping on your next order" | | Free gift | Stores with low-cost add-on products | "Stay and we'll add a free sample to your next order" | ### Discount Best Practices - **Make the value clear and immediate.** "15% off your next order" is better than "a special reward." - **Use a dedicated discount code for your unsubscribe page.** This lets you track how many retained subscribers actually redeem the offer and measure its impact separately from other promotions. - **Set a reasonable expiration** (7–14 days). Urgency drives action without feeling pushy. - **Test different amounts.** Use A/B testing to find the threshold where stay rates increase without giving away too much margin. A 10% discount that saves 50 subscribers can be more profitable than a 25% discount that saves 55. ### Delayed vs. Immediate Rewards - **Immediate**: The discount code is shown right on the page after clicking Stay. Simple and effective. - **Delayed**: A follow-up email delivers the reward after a short wait. This confirms the subscriber is still engaged and gives you an additional touchpoint. Test both approaches—some audiences prefer instant gratification while others respond well to the anticipation of a follow-up email. --- ## Pause Options Pausing is one of the highest-converting retention strategies because it respects the subscriber's desire for less email without losing them entirely. ### Effective Pause Configurations - **Offer 2–3 duration options** (e.g., 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month). Too many choices can overwhelm. - **Make "2 weeks" or "1 month" the default.** Most subscribers just need a break, not permanent silence. - **Clearly explain what happens.** "You won't receive any emails for 2 weeks, then we'll resume." Transparency builds trust. ### Why Pausing Works Subscribers who pause are signaling "I like your brand but need a break." After the pause ends, they return as an engaged subscriber—often more engaged than before, because they feel heard. --- ## Preference Management Let subscribers customize their experience instead of leaving entirely. ### Email Frequency Offer 2–4 frequency options such as: - Every email (default) - Weekly digest - Bi-weekly - Monthly Even reducing from daily to weekly can save a subscriber who would otherwise unsubscribe. ### Email Topics If you send different types of emails (promotions, new arrivals, content/blog, etc.), let subscribers pick which they want. A subscriber who only wants sale notifications is still valuable. ### Best Practices - **Pre-select their current preferences** so they see what they're receiving today. - **Keep options simple.** 3–5 topics maximum. Too many feels like work. - **Use friendly labels.** "Sales & Discounts" is better than "promotional_emails." --- ## Page Design Tips ### Above the Fold The first thing a visitor sees should answer: **"Why should I stay?"** - Lead with your value proposition or offer, not "Are you sure?" - Use brand colors and imagery to reinforce identity. - Make the Stay/Pause button visually prominent—larger and higher contrast than Unsubscribe. ### Copy That Converts - **Acknowledge their feelings.** "We get it—too many emails can be overwhelming." - **Be specific about benefits.** "You'll miss our weekly deals (avg. 20% off)" beats "You'll miss out." - **Avoid guilt trips.** "We'll be sad to see you go" can feel manipulative. Focus on value instead. ### Interactive Elements - **Scratch cards**: Gamified reveal of a discount. High engagement because of the curiosity factor. - **Spinner wheel**: A spin-to-win wheel that reveals a reward. Similar psychology to scratch cards—the element of chance makes the offer feel more exciting than a static discount. - **Product showcases**: Use product-focused page templates to display actual products from your store on the unsubscribe page. Reminding visitors of what they'll miss—especially bestsellers or new arrivals—can be a powerful visual retention tool. --- ## A/B Testing Your Retention Strategy Don't guess—test. Use the built-in [A/B Testing](/docs/ab-testing) feature to compare: 1. **Different discount amounts** (10% vs. 15% vs. 20%) 2. **Discount vs. pause as the primary offer** 3. **Different page layouts** (offer-first vs. reason-first) 4. **With vs. without a scratch card or interactive element** 5. **Copy variations** (benefit-focused vs. empathy-focused) ### What to Measure - **"Chose to Stay" rate**: % of visitors who click Stay or Pause (higher is better) - **Revenue per retained subscriber**: From the Revenue Impact dashboard - **"Left Without Unsubscribing" rate**: A high rate here may mean visitors aren't finding the Stay option compelling—or that your page design makes unsubscribing hard to find (which can erode trust) ### Testing Tips - Run tests for at least 2 weeks or 200+ visitors per variant for statistical significance. - Change one variable at a time. - Check the Revenue Impact page after 90 days to see revenue impact. --- ## Common Mistakes to Avoid 1. **No offer at all.** A plain "Are you sure?" page misses the biggest opportunity to retain. 2. **Hiding the unsubscribe button.** Making it hard to leave erodes trust and can lead to spam complaints. 3. **Too many options.** Stay, Pause, Frequency, Topics, Discount, Survey—all at once is overwhelming. Prioritize 2–3 clear paths. 4. **Ignoring mobile.** Over 60% of email opens are on mobile. Test your page on small screens. 5. **Set and forget.** Review your Revenue Impact dashboard monthly and iterate on your page. --- ## Recommended Workflow 1. **Start simple**: A clear Stay button with a modest discount (10–15%). 2. **Add a pause option**: Give subscribers an easy alternative to unsubscribing. 3. **Enable preference management**: Let subscribers control frequency and topics. 4. **A/B test**: Try different offers, layouts, and copy. 5. **Review monthly**: Check your Revenue Impact dashboard and adjust. 6. **Iterate**: Use what you learn to continuously improve retention. --- ## Further Reading - [Analytics Guide](/docs/analytics) — Understanding your unsubscribe page metrics - [Retention Health](/docs/retention-health) — Klaviyo setup score, flows, and exclusion segments - [A/B Testing](/docs/ab-testing) — Setting up and running retention experiments - [Page Templates](/docs/page-templates) — Pre-built designs optimized for retention - [Subscriber Experience](/docs/subscriber-experience) — How subscribers interact with your page --- # Klaviyo Unsubscribe Hosted Page Setup Guide This guide explains how to set up a Klaviyo **unsubscribe** hosted page to automatically redirect unsubscribes to your Last Chance page. ## Overview Klaviyo hosted pages allow you to create custom HTML pages that are hosted by Klaviyo. If you pasted HTML before enabling branding, update each hosted page in Klaviyo with fresh HTML from Last Chance. ### Branded host + hosted page HTML When Last Chance generates hosted page HTML for a **branded** public URL (platform subdomain or custom domain), the script tag: - Uses your branded origin in `src` (for example `https://unsubscribe.yourbrand.com/api/scripts/hosted-redirect`) - Includes `data-branded-host="true"` - **Does not** include `data-team-id` — the app resolves your team from the hostname If you hand-edit HTML, match that pattern on your branded host. On the shared `www` app URL, keep `data-team-id` as today. --- ## Prerequisites Before you begin: - ✅ Your Last Chance unsubscribe page is created and published - ✅ Your Klaviyo integration is connected in Last Chance - ✅ You have admin access to your Klaviyo account - ✅ Your Klaviyo emails use the standard **unsubscribe** tag or editor option so clicks go through Klaviyo’s unsubscribe flow (see [Klaviyo unsubscribe and preference links in emails](./klaviyo-email-links-and-consent-pages.md)) --- ## Setup Process ### Step 1: Enable Hosted Pages in Klaviyo 1. Navigate to [Klaviyo Consent Pages Settings](https://www.klaviyo.com/settings/other/consent-pages) 2. Enable the hosted pages feature in your Klaviyo account ### Step 2: Create Your Unsubscribe Hosted Page 1. Navigate to [Klaviyo Hosted Pages](https://www.klaviyo.com/settings/other/hosted-pages) 2. Click **Create New Hosted Page** 3. Give it a name (e.g., "last_chance_unsub") ### Step 3: Copy and Paste the HTML Code Copy the personalized HTML code below and paste it into your new **unsubscribe** hosted page. This code includes your unique team ID and automatic redirect logic. > 💡 **Note**: If you're viewing this guide from your dashboard (via **Settings → Email Providers → Klaviyo → Unsubscribe Hosted Page Setup**), you'll see your personalized HTML code below. If you're not signed in, you'll need to sign in to see your personalized code. ### Step 4: Configure Email Unsubscribe 1. Go back to [Klaviyo Consent Pages Settings](https://www.klaviyo.com/settings/other/consent-pages) 2. Click the vertical ellipsis (three dots) on the "Email Unsubscribe" section 3. Select **Use hosted page** 4. Choose the hosted page you just created 5. Click **Save** ![Klaviyo Consent Pages Ellipsis Menu](/klaviyo-setup/consent-pages-ellipsis.png) _Click the vertical ellipsis (three dots) to access the "Use hosted page" option_ ![Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page selection modal](/klaviyo-setup/hosted-page-modal.png) _Select your unsubscribe hosted page from the dropdown and click "Save"_ --- ## How It Works Here is what happens when a subscriber clicks "Unsubscribe" in your Klaviyo email: ``` 1. Subscriber clicks "Unsubscribe" in email ↓ 2. Navigated to your Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page ↓ 3. Unsubscribe hosted page Last Chance JavaScript executes automatically ↓ 4. Redirects to your published Last Chance page ↓ 5. Last Chance page displays your custom unsubscribe experience ``` --- ## Verifying Setup After completing the setup: 1. **Check the setup status** - The setup checklist in your unsubscribe page editor will show the Klaviyo **unsubscribe** hosted page setup as complete 2. **Test the flow** - Send yourself a test email from Klaviyo and click the unsubscribe link. You can also click any unsubscribe link from any historical email already sent from Klaviyo. 3. **Verify redirect** - You should be redirected to your published Last Chance page --- ## Reverting to Default If you need to revert back to Klaviyo's default unsubscribe page, follow these steps: > ⚠️ **Important:** Reverting will remove your custom Last Chance unsubscribe page and return to Klaviyo's default unsubscribe experience. Subscribers will no longer be redirected to your Last Chance page. ### Step 1: Navigate to Consent Pages Settings 1. Go to your [Klaviyo Consent Pages Settings](https://www.klaviyo.com/settings/other/consent-pages) 2. You'll see the "Email Unsubscribe" section with your current unsubscribe hosted page configuration ![Klaviyo consent pages showing how to revert to default unsubscribe page](/klaviyo-setup/revert-back.png) _Klaviyo consent pages showing how to revert to default unsubscribe page_ ### Step 2: Revert to Default Unsubscribe Page 1. Click the vertical ellipsis (three dots) button on the "Email Unsubscribe" section 2. Select the option to revert back to Klaviyo's default unsubscribe page 3. Confirm the revert when prompted ![Confirmation screen for reverting to default unsubscribe page](/klaviyo-setup/revert-confirm.png) _Confirmation screen for reverting to default unsubscribe page_ After reverting, all unsubscribe clicks will go directly to Klaviyo's default unsubscribe page instead of your Last Chance page. You can always set up the unsubscribe hosted page again using the setup guide above. --- ## Troubleshooting ### Unsubscribe Hosted Page Not Redirecting - Verify the HTML code was copied correctly (check for any line breaks or formatting issues) - Ensure the unsubscribe hosted page is set as the default unsubscribe page in Klaviyo settings - Check browser console for any JavaScript errors ### Page Not Showing - Ensure your Last Chance unsubscribe page is published - Verify your Klaviyo integration is connected and active - Check that the team ID in the HTML matches your account --- ## Additional Resources - [Getting Started Guide](./getting-started.md) - Complete setup walkthrough - [Klaviyo unsubscribe and preference links in emails](./klaviyo-email-links-and-consent-pages.md) - Tags, templates, and consent-page routing - [How to add an unsubscribe link to Klaviyo emails](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006054267) - Klaviyo Help Center - [Getting started with consent pages](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005251848) - Klaviyo Help Center - [Klaviyo Hosted Pages Documentation](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/4408802648731) - Official Klaviyo docs --- ## Next Steps After setting up the unsubscribe hosted page: 1. **Monitor analytics** - Track unsubscribe page performance 2. **Test with real emails** - Verify the flow works with actual campaigns 3. **Optimize your page** - Improve retention rates based on analytics --- For questions or support, contact us at support@yourlastchance.app. --- # Klaviyo unsubscribe and preference links in emails This guide explains how **unsubscribe** and **manage preferences** links work in Klaviyo emails, how that connects to **consent pages** and **hosted pages**, and how Last Chance fits in. ## Why this matters for Last Chance Last Chance intercepts traffic when someone clicks **Unsubscribe** or **Manage preferences** in a Klaviyo email **after** Klaviyo sends them to your **email unsubscribe** or **preferences** consent experience. You wire that experience to a Klaviyo **hosted page** that runs Last Chance’s redirect script (see the [unsubscribe hosted page setup](./klaviyo-hosted-page-setup.md) and [preference center setup](./klaviyo-preference-center-setup.md) guides). For that path to run: 1. The email must use Klaviyo’s **unsubscribe** / **manage preferences** tags (or Klaviyo’s UI equivalent), so Klaviyo generates the correct URLs. 2. In Klaviyo **consent pages** settings, the **email unsubscribe** (and optionally **preferences**) step must be set to **Use hosted page** with your Last Chance HTML. If Klaviyo does not detect an unsubscribe tag in a message, it may **automatically add a basic unsubscribe link** at the bottom of the email. That still goes through Klaviyo’s unsubscribe flow, but you should not rely on omission—include a proper tag or footer link in templates you control. For Klaviyo’s own explanation, see [How to add an unsubscribe link to Klaviyo emails](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006054267). --- ## Add an unsubscribe link to campaigns and flows ### Using the email editor (drag-and-drop or text block) 1. Open the **email template** (campaign, flow email, or universal content). 2. Select a **text block** (or add one) and open the text editor. 3. Click the **personalization** icon in the toolbar. 4. Open **All types** → **Links and preview** → **Unsubscribe**. Klaviyo inserts the correct tag for a full unsubscribe link. ### Tag reference (custom HTML or advanced edits) | Use case | Tag | | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------- | | Default linked text (“Unsubscribe”) | `{% unsubscribe %}` | | Custom link text | `{% unsubscribe 'Your custom text' %}` | | **URL only** (hyperlink URL field, button **Link address**, or `href` in custom HTML) | `{% unsubscribe_link %}` | **Important:** The default `{% unsubscribe %}` tag outputs a **full HTML link**, not just a URL. If you put it in a button’s URL field or inside ``, the link can break. In those cases use `{% unsubscribe_link %}` inside `href`, for example: ```html Unsubscribe here ``` More detail and screenshots: [How to add an unsubscribe link to Klaviyo emails](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006054267). --- ## Add a manage preferences (preference center) link When someone clicks **manage preferences**, Klaviyo shows the **preferences** consent page (unless you override it with a hosted page—see [Klaviyo preference center setup](./klaviyo-preference-center-setup.md)). ### Tag reference | Use case | Tag | | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------- | | Linked text in a text block | `{% manage_preferences %}` | | Button block **Link address**, image link, or `href` in custom HTML | `{% manage_preferences_link %}` | Use `{% manage_preferences_link %}` anywhere you need **only the URL**, same pattern as `{% unsubscribe_link %}`. --- ## Consent pages: what Klaviyo shows subscribers Klaviyo maintains **account default** consent pages (preferences, subscribe, email unsubscribe, success pages, etc.). Tags like `{% unsubscribe %}` and `{% manage_preferences %}` route recipients to the appropriate **consent page** for that send—**usually** the account default. **List-specific consent pages** apply only when an email targets **exactly one static list** (e.g. a campaign to a single list, or a flow triggered by “added to list” for that list). Segment sends, multi-list sends, and most event-triggered flows use **account default** pages. To understand defaults vs list overrides and where to edit each page, see Klaviyo’s [Getting started with consent pages](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005251848). **Last Chance:** After you assign your **hosted page** to **Email unsubscribe** (and optionally to the preferences / manage-preferences step), anyone who reaches that consent step via those tags will hit your redirect and land on Last Chance. --- ## One-click preference apply links Append query parameters to `{% manage_preferences_link %}` so a single click **opens Last Chance and saves** topic and/or frequency preferences automatically. Apply params work on any validate URL (hosted redirect or direct `/api/unsub/validate` link); they do **not** require `entry=preferences`. Use `entry=preferences` only when you want subscribers to land on the **preferences screen** instead of the default initial page. One-click apply and preferences entry are independent. | Parameter | Purpose | Example | | ---------------- | --------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- | | `applyTopics` | One or more topic slugs (comma-separated) | `applyTopics=sales_and_discounts` or `applyTopics=foo,bar` | | `applyTopicMode` | How topics combine with existing saved topics | `merge` (default) or `replace` | Invalid `applyTopicMode` values (anything other than `merge` or `replace`) are ignored for topic apply: topic slugs in the link are skipped, but a valid `applyFrequency` in the same URL still applies. Subscribers see a partial or failed banner explaining that topics could not be applied. | `applyFrequency` | Single frequency slug (always replaces existing) | `applyFrequency=weekly` | Examples for custom HTML in Klaviyo emails: ```html Yes, send me sales & discounts Only send me sales & discounts Switch me to weekly emails Sales emails, once a week ``` Topic and frequency slugs must match your team's configured values in **Settings → User preferences**. Copy-ready snippets are available on the **Topics** and **Frequencies** tabs in the Last Chance dashboard. --- ## Quick checklist - [ ] Unsubscribe: use the personalization menu or `{% unsubscribe %}` / `{% unsubscribe_link %}` as appropriate for text vs buttons. - [ ] Preferences (optional but recommended): add `{% manage_preferences %}` or `{% manage_preferences_link %}` where you want subscribers to adjust preferences before unsubscribing. - [ ] Klaviyo **Consent pages**: **Email unsubscribe** → **Use hosted page** → your Last Chance unsubscribe hosted page HTML. - [ ] Optional: second hosted page + consent assignment for **manage preferences** → [Preference center setup](./klaviyo-preference-center-setup.md). --- ## Related Last Chance guides - [Klaviyo Unsubscribe Hosted Page Setup](./klaviyo-hosted-page-setup.md) - [Klaviyo Preference Center Hosted Page Setup](./klaviyo-preference-center-setup.md) - [Getting Started](./getting-started.md) ## Official Klaviyo help - [How to add an unsubscribe link to Klaviyo emails](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006054267) - [Getting started with consent pages](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005251848) - [Klaviyo hosted pages (overview)](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/4408802648731) For support: support@yourlastchance.app --- # Klaviyo Preference Center Hosted Page Setup This guide explains how to use a **second** Klaviyo hosted page so subscribers who click **manage preferences** (or your preference center link) are redirected to your Last Chance **preferences** screen—using the same Last Chance script as the unsubscribe hosted page, with one extra attribute. ## Overview Klaviyo can host custom HTML for consent flows, including a page used when someone opens their email preferences. By creating a dedicated hosted page and assigning it in Klaviyo’s consent settings, you can send those visitors to Last Chance with `entry=preferences` so they land directly on your preferences experience (topics, frequency, pause, etc.). ### Benefits - **Same pattern as unsubscribe** — One script URL; add `data-entry="preferences"` for the preference-center page only - **No template surgery** — Works with Klaviyo’s default preference links once the consent page is wired - **Recommended** — Unsubscribe hosted page setup is unchanged; this second page closes the manage-preferences entry point so more subscribers see Last Chance before they unsubscribe --- ## Prerequisites Before you begin: - ✅ Unsubscribe hosted page setup is complete (or you understand that flow) — see the [Klaviyo Unsubscribe Hosted Page Setup Guide](./klaviyo-hosted-page-setup.md) - ✅ Your Last Chance page is published and includes an enabled **preferences** screen in the flow - ✅ Klaviyo hosted pages are enabled (same as for unsubscribe) - ✅ Admin access to Klaviyo - ✅ **Manage preferences** links in your Klaviyo templates use `{% manage_preferences %}` or `{% manage_preferences_link %}` where appropriate (see [Klaviyo unsubscribe and preference links in emails](./klaviyo-email-links-and-consent-pages.md)) --- ## Setup Process ### Step 1: Create a second hosted page 1. Go to [Klaviyo Hosted Pages](https://www.klaviyo.com/settings/other/hosted-pages) 2. Click **Create New Hosted Page** 3. Name it clearly (e.g. `last_chance_preferences`) ### Step 2: Paste the HTML code (preference center variant) Copy the personalized HTML below. It is the same as the unsubscribe snippet **plus** `data-entry="preferences"` on the script tag so Last Chance opens the preferences screen. > **Note:** If you view this guide while signed in at **Settings → Email Providers → Klaviyo**, your team ID is filled in below. In the public docs, sign in and refresh to see your code. ### Step 3: Assign the page in Klaviyo consent settings 1. Open [Klaviyo Consent Pages Settings](https://www.klaviyo.com/settings/other/consent-pages) 2. Find the section for **email preferences** / **manage preferences** (wording may vary by account) 3. Choose **Use hosted page** (or equivalent) and select the hosted page you created 4. Save For Klaviyo’s own UI details, see their help center: [Getting started with consent pages](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005251848), [Understand custom hosted pages in Klaviyo](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360057676272-Understand-custom-hosted-pages-in-Klaviyo), and [How to add an unsubscribe link to Klaviyo emails](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006054267) (same tag patterns apply to preference links—see our [email links guide](./klaviyo-email-links-and-consent-pages.md)). --- ## How It Works ``` 1. Subscriber opens manage preferences from email or profile ↓ 2. Klaviyo loads your preference-center hosted page ↓ 3. Last Chance script runs (with data-entry="preferences") ↓ 4. Browser redirects to /unsub?...&entry=preferences&source=klaviyo ↓ 5. Last Chance shows the preferences screen when it exists and is enabled ``` If the preferences screen is missing or disabled in your published template, visitors fall back to the normal entry screen (`initial`). --- ## Verifying Setup 1. Use Klaviyo to send a test that includes a manage-preferences link, or trigger the preference URL Klaviyo provides 2. Confirm you land on your Last Chance **preferences** UI 3. **Dashboard** — The onboarding step **Set up Klaviyo preference center hosted page** can auto-complete after a real visit with `source=klaviyo` and `entry=preferences` --- ## One-click preference apply links After your manage-preferences flow sends subscribers to Last Chance (hosted page or direct link), you can append query parameters to `{% manage_preferences_link %}` so a single click saves topic and/or frequency preferences automatically. Apply params work without `entry=preferences`; use `entry=preferences` only when you also want the preferences screen as the landing page. See [Klaviyo unsubscribe and preference links in emails](./klaviyo-email-links-and-consent-pages.md#one-click-preference-apply-links) for parameter reference and HTML examples. In Last Chance, open **Settings → User preferences → Topics** or **Frequencies** to copy generated snippets or per-topic/per-frequency links from the **One-click preference apply links** card. --- ## Reverting In **Consent Pages** settings, switch the preference / manage-preferences flow back to Klaviyo’s default (or another page) instead of your Last Chance redirect hosted page. --- ## Troubleshooting - **Lands on initial page, not preferences** — Ensure the published flow has **preferences** enabled; check the script includes `data-entry="preferences"` on this hosted page only (not on the unsubscribe hosted page) - **Hosted page not loading script** — Compare with the working unsubscribe HTML; only the `data-entry` line should differ - **Unsubscribe still works** — Keep your **unsubscribe** hosted page as a **separate** Klaviyo page **without** `data-entry` --- ## Related - [Klaviyo Unsubscribe Hosted Page Setup](./klaviyo-hosted-page-setup.md) - [Klaviyo unsubscribe and preference links in emails](./klaviyo-email-links-and-consent-pages.md) - [Getting Started](./getting-started.md) For support: support@yourlastchance.app --- # Team Management Guide Last Chance supports team collaboration, allowing you to invite colleagues to help manage your unsubscribe pages. Verify their invitation was accepted 2. Check they're signing into the correct account 3. Ensure they're part of the right team (if you have multiple) --- ## FAQ ### Can I have multiple teams? Yes. Admins can use **Create team** in the sidebar, and anyone can join additional teams by accepting invitations. Switch teams from the sidebar; billing is per team, and your role may differ between teams. ### What happens to a removed member's work? All pages and content remain with the team. Nothing is deleted when a member is removed. ### Can I transfer team ownership? To transfer ownership: 1. Make the new owner an Admin 2. Have them manage the billing settings 3. Consider demoting yourself to Member if appropriate ### Is there a limit on team members? All plans support unlimited team members at no additional cost. ### Can members see billing information? No, only Admins can view and manage billing. Members do not have access to: - Subscription details - Payment methods - Invoices - Tier information --- ## Next Steps - [Getting Started Guide](./getting-started.md) - Set up your first page - [Analytics Guide](./analytics.md) - Understand your analytics data - [Billing & Account](./billing-account.md) - Manage your subscription --- # Billing & Account Guide This guide explains how Last Chance billing works, including pricing tiers, subscription management, and account settings. ## Overview Last Chance uses usage-based pricing tied to your Klaviyo profile count. Your tier automatically adjusts based on your subscriber list size, ensuring you always pay the right amount for your needs. --- ## Accessing Account Settings 1. From the dashboard, click **Account** in the left sidebar 2. The Account page displays your current tier, profile count, and subscription status --- ## Pricing Tiers Last Chance offers four pricing tiers based on your Klaviyo profile count: | Tier | Profile Count | Price | | ------------ | ------------------- | ---------- | | **Growth** | Up to 10,000 | $29/month | | **Scale** | 10,001 – 50,000 | $99/month | | **Advanced** | 50,001 – 250,000 | $199/month | | **Plus** | 250,000+ (fair use) | $399/month | ### How Tiers Work - Your tier is **automatically calculated** based on your Klaviyo profile count - Profile count is synced from your connected Klaviyo account - When your count changes, your tier adjusts accordingly - Billing is prorated when you move between tiers --- ## Understanding Profile Count ### What Counts as a Profile? Your profile count includes all profiles in your connected Klaviyo account. This typically includes: - Active subscribers - Unsubscribed contacts (still in Klaviyo) - Suppressed profiles ### Syncing Your Profile Count Your profile count syncs automatically, but you can manually sync it: 1. Navigate to the **Account** page 2. Click the **Sync** button next to your current tier 3. Wait for the count to update 4. Your tier will adjust if the count has changed --- ## Starting a Subscription ### Subscribe to Upgrade 1. Connect your **Klaviyo** account (required so we can determine your tier and price). 2. Navigate to the **Account** page 3. Click **Subscribe** or **Manage Subscription** 4. Complete payment (in Shopify if your store is connected, or via the app’s billing flow) 5. You're subscribed! ### What's Included (Paid Plans) Paid tiers include: - Unlimited unsubscribe pages - Unlimited team members - Full analytics access (uncapped time range) - Klaviyo integration - All customization features - Option to hide "Powered by Last Chance" branding (Account → Branding) - **Branded unsubscribe subdomain** (Account → Branding) — see [Branded Unsubscribe Subdomain Guide](./branded-unsubscribe-subdomain.md) - Email support --- ## Branded unsubscribe subdomain Paid teams can claim a subdomain under the Last Chance public domain (for example `https://your-brand.yourlastchance.app/unsub`) so subscriber links do not use the shared app URL with `teamId` in the query string. 1. Open **Account** → **Branded unsubscribe subdomain** 2. Enter a subdomain slug and click **Save subdomain** 3. If you use Klaviyo hosted pages, re-copy the HTML from **Settings → Email Providers → Klaviyo** and paste it into each hosted page in Klaviyo (see [Branded Unsubscribe Subdomain Guide](./branded-unsubscribe-subdomain.md#recommended-klaviyo-unsubscribe-hosted-page)) Full setup, DNS notes, security, and troubleshooting: [Branded Unsubscribe Subdomain Guide](./branded-unsubscribe-subdomain.md). --- ## Managing Your Subscription ### Subscriptions and Billing with Shopify If your team is connected to a Shopify store, your subscription is billed through **Shopify** (managed app billing): - **Choosing a plan**: From the **Account** page, click **Subscribe** or **Change plan** to open Shopify’s plan selection. You complete payment and plan changes in Shopify. - **Changing your plan**: Use **Change plan** on the Account page to open Shopify’s pricing plans. Upgrade or switch tiers there; your plan and tier in Last Chance stay in sync when you use **Sync** or after the next sync. - **Managing billing**: Payment methods, invoices, and subscription details are managed in your **Shopify admin** (Settings → Billing). Use **Manage Billing** on the Account page to open it. - **Syncing**: If you change your plan in Shopify, click **Sync** on the Account page so Last Chance reflects your current plan and tier. --- ### Billing Portal (non-Shopify) If your subscription is not through Shopify, use the app’s billing portal to: - View your current plan - Update payment methods - Download invoices - View payment history - Cancel your subscription To access: 1. Go to the **Account** page 2. Click **Manage Billing** or **Billing Portal** 3. You’ll be redirected to the secure billing portal ### Update Payment Method 1. Access the billing portal 2. Click **Payment methods** 3. Add a new card or update existing 4. Set the new card as default ### Download Invoices 1. Access the billing portal 2. Click **Billing history** 3. Find the invoice you need 4. Click **Download** for a PDF --- ## Tier Changes ### Automatic Upgrades When your profile count increases past a tier threshold: 1. Your tier automatically updates on the next sync 2. Your subscription is prorated 3. You're charged the difference for the remaining billing period 4. You receive a confirmation email **Example**: If you're on the Growth tier ($29/month) halfway through your billing period and move to Scale ($99/month), you'll be charged ~$35 ($70 prorated for the remaining half month). ### Automatic Downgrades When your profile count decreases below your current tier: 1. Your tier automatically updates on the next sync 2. Credit is applied to your account 3. Future invoices are reduced accordingly ### Plus Tier (250,000+) If your profile count exceeds 250,000: 1. Your tier shows as "Plus" at a flat $399/month 2. A fair-use policy applies to very large lists 3. Contact us if your list is substantially larger so we can confirm fair-use limits --- ## When You Exceed Your Plan Limit Your plan has a **subscriber cap** (e.g. 250,000 for Advanced). Billable subscriber count is based on Klaviyo profiles with status _subscribed_. If your count goes **above** your current plan’s cap: - You’ll see an **Over plan limit** notice on the **Dashboard** and **Account** page. - We recommend upgrading to the next tier so you stay in compliance and restore full features. ### What keeps working - **Core experience**: Unsubscribe and stay-subscribed flows on your public pages continue to work. Visitors can still unsubscribe or choose to stay subscribed. ### What is restricted while over limit Until you upgrade, the following are restricted: - **Order attribution**: New orders are no longer recorded as attributed to your unsubscribe page (no new attributed-order events). Existing attribution data is unchanged. - **Pause button**: The “Pause emails” button is hidden on your public unsubscribe pages. - **Unsubscribe reason form**: The “Why did you unsubscribe?” feedback form is hidden. - **Rewards**: Visitors who stay subscribed see a generic “Thank you for staying subscribed!” message instead of your configured reward or discount code. - **Preferences button**: The button that takes subscribers to frequency/topic preferences is hidden on your unsubscribe pages. Upgrade from the **Account** page (use **Change plan** for Shopify, or the billing portal otherwise) to restore full features. For more detail, see the Over plan limit card on the Dashboard or Account page. --- ## Subscription Status Your plan is determined by your subscription. If you subscribe through Shopify, your plan may include a trial period before billing begins on your regular Shopify bill. Your subscription can have these statuses: | Status | Description | | ------------- | -------------------------------- | | **Active** | Subscription is current and paid | | **Past Due** | Payment failed, retry scheduled | | **Canceled** | Subscription ended | | **Canceling** | Set to cancel at period end | ### Handling Failed Payments If a payment fails: 1. The billing provider automatically retries the charge 2. You receive email notifications 3. Your access continues during the retry period 4. Update your payment method to resolve ### Reactivating a Subscription If your subscription was canceled: 1. Go to the **Account** page 2. Click **Subscribe** or **Reactivate** 3. Complete the checkout process 4. Your subscription is restored --- ## Canceling Your Subscription ### How to Cancel 1. Access the billing portal 2. Click **Cancel subscription** 3. Select a reason (optional but helpful) 4. Confirm the cancellation ### What Happens After Cancellation - You retain access until your billing period ends - After that, your subscription ends; subscribe again from the **Account** page to restore full access - No further charges will be made - Data is retained; you can reactivate at any time --- ## Account Settings ### Team Information Your Account page displays: - Team name - Subscription status - Current tier and pricing - Profile count with sync option - Progress bar showing position within tier ### Klaviyo Connection If Klaviyo isn't connected, you'll see a prompt to connect it. Your tier can't be calculated without a Klaviyo connection. --- ## FAQ ### When is my billing date? **Shopify billing:** If your subscription is billed through Shopify, your app subscription renews on the date shown on the **Account** page (next renewal date). Shopify generates the recurring charge at the start of each app billing period and adds it to your store's regular Shopify bill — the exact date money is collected depends on your store's Shopify invoice cycle, not necessarily the renewal date itself. Trials include a prorated credit on your first bill. To see exact charge dates and invoices, open **Shopify admin → Settings → Billing** (or use **Manage Billing** on the Account page). **Other billing:** If you subscribe directly (not through Shopify), billing occurs on the anniversary of your subscription start date. For example, if you subscribed on the 15th, you're billed on the 15th of each month. ### Can I pay annually? Annual billing is available for Advanced tier and above. Contact support for details. ### What currency do you charge in? All prices are in USD. Your payment processor may apply currency conversion fees. ### Do you offer refunds? We offer prorated refunds for downgrades. For cancellations, you retain access until the period ends but are not refunded for unused time. ### What happens to my data if I cancel? - Your account and data are retained; subscribe again anytime to restore full access - Contact support if you need to export or delete your data ### Can I pause my subscription? We don't offer subscription pausing. You can cancel and reactivate later, but you'll lose access during the gap. ### How do I get pricing for very large lists? If your Klaviyo profile count is well above 250,000, contact us at sales@lastchanceemail.com with: - Your current profile count - Expected growth - Any specific requirements ### Is there a setup fee? No, there are no setup fees. You only pay your monthly subscription. ### Do team members cost extra? No, all plans include unlimited team members at no additional cost. --- ## Troubleshooting ### Tier Not Updating If your tier seems incorrect: 1. Click **Sync** on the Account page 2. Wait a few moments for the sync to complete 3. Verify your Klaviyo connection is active 4. Check that your Klaviyo account has the expected profile count ### Payment Failed If a payment fails: 1. Check that your card isn't expired 2. Verify sufficient funds are available 3. Update your payment method in the billing portal 4. Contact your bank if the card is being declined ### Can't Access Billing Portal If you can't access billing: 1. Verify you have Admin role on your team 2. Try logging out and back in 3. Clear your browser cache 4. Contact support if issues persist ### Invoice Not Received Invoices are sent to the email associated with your billing account: 1. Check your spam/junk folder 2. Verify the email address in the billing portal 3. Download invoices directly from the billing portal --- ## Contact Billing Support For billing questions or issues: - **Email**: billing@lastchanceemail.com - **Sales (large lists)**: sales@lastchanceemail.com Include your team name and email address in all communications. --- ## Next Steps - [Getting Started Guide](./getting-started.md) - Set up your first page - [Analytics Guide](./analytics.md) - Understand your data - [Team Management](./team-management.md) - Manage your team --- # Branded Unsubscribe Subdomain Guide This guide explains how to serve your public unsubscribe page on a **branded URL** — either a Last Chance subdomain (for example `https://your-brand.yourlastchance.app/unsub`) or your own custom domain (for example `https://unsubscribe.yourbrand.com/unsub`) — instead of the shared app URL with `teamId` in the query string. ## Overview Branded URLs give each paid team a dedicated hostname for public unsubscribe traffic: | Before (shared URL) | After (branded URL) | | ------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- | | `https://www.yourlastchance.app/unsub?email=…&teamId=…` | `https://your-brand.yourlastchance.app/unsub` | After a subscriber validates (or when using a session cookie from a prior visit), the browser address bar stays **clean** — `email` and `teamId` are not required in the URL. Last Chance identifies your team from the hostname and stores the subscriber in an encrypted session cookie. ### What changes automatically When a branded URL is active, Last Chance uses it in: - **Page preview** (editor and versions) — opens your branded host, then lands on a clean `/unsub` URL - **Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page HTML** — redirect script targets your branded base URL (Settings → Email Providers → Klaviyo) - **Public unsubscribe page** — production links can omit `teamId` when opened on your branded host The main dashboard at [https://www.yourlastchance.app](https://www.yourlastchance.app) is unchanged. Only the public unsubscribe experience is served on your branded host. --- ## Requirements - **Active paid subscription** — You need full access before claiming any branded hostname - **Scale plan or higher** — Platform subdomain (`your-brand.yourlastchance.app`) requires the Scale plan ($99/mo) or above. Growth plans continue using the shared Last Chance URL with `teamId` in the link - **Advanced plan or higher (custom domain)** — Your own hostname (for example `unsubscribe.yourbrand.com`) requires the Advanced plan ($199/mo) or above, when custom domains are enabled for your environment - **Published unsubscribe page** — Subscribers must have a live page to land on - **Platform subdomain** — No DNS setup on your side; choose a slug in the app (Scale+) - **Custom domain (optional)** — Add the DNS records shown in **Account** after you enter your hostname (Advanced+) If you downgrade below the required plan, existing branded hostnames keep working until you remove them; new claims or hostname changes require upgrading again. --- ## Platform subdomain 1. Sign in to Last Chance and open **Account** in the sidebar 2. Open the **Branded unsubscribe subdomain** section 3. Enter a slug (lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens; 3–63 characters) 4. Click **Save subdomain** You will see your **live unsubscribe link** (for example `https://your-brand.yourlastchance.app/unsub`) when the subdomain is saved. ### Slug rules - At least 3 characters, at most 63 - Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only - Cannot start or end with a hyphen - Reserved names (for example `www`, `api`, `unsub`, `dashboard`) are blocked - Slugs already used by another team return “This subdomain is already taken” ### Remove a subdomain Click **Remove** in the same section. Public links revert to the shared app URL with `teamId` in query parameters. --- ## Custom domain (optional) On **Advanced** plan and above (when custom domains are enabled), you can use a hostname you control (for example `unsubscribe.yourbrand.com`): 1. In **Account → Branded unsubscribe subdomain**, enter your hostname under **Custom domain** and click **Save custom domain** 2. Add the **DNS records** shown in the app at your domain registrar 3. Wait for verification — status updates automatically in the app (usually within a few minutes after DNS propagates) When both a subdomain and custom domain are active, choose **Default link for Klaviyo & previews** to control which URL Last Chance uses in hosted-page HTML and editor preview. --- ## How subscribers reach your page ### Recommended: Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page Keep using the [Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page setup](./klaviyo-hosted-page-setup.md). New HTML you copy from Last Chance uses your **branded base URL** in the `script src`. ### If you already pasted hosted page HTML before adding a branded URL Klaviyo stores the HTML you pasted—it does not update automatically when you save a subdomain or custom domain in Last Chance. 1. Open **Settings → Email Providers → Klaviyo** in Last Chance and click **Copy Code** (unsubscribe and preference-center pages if you use both). 2. In [Klaviyo Hosted Pages](https://www.klaviyo.com/settings/other/hosted-pages), edit each Last Chance hosted page and replace the HTML. 3. You do **not** need to change which page is selected in Klaviyo consent settings—only the HTML content. The redirect script sends subscribers to whatever origin is in the `script src` line. Old HTML pointing at `www.yourlastchance.app` keeps using the shared URL with `teamId` until you update it. Flow (after hosted page HTML uses your branded `script src`): ``` Subscriber clicks Unsubscribe in email → Klaviyo consent / hosted page → Last Chance redirect script (your branded host) → Brief validation (sets a secure session) → https://your-brand.yourlastchance.app/unsub (clean URL) ``` ### Direct links and testing You can still open the page with `email` (and optionally `teamId` on the shared host) in the query string. On a **valid** branded host, `teamId` in the URL is optional because the hostname identifies your team. For a quick test without an email campaign: 1. Use **Preview** in the page editor with a test email 2. Or visit your branded URL with `email` once; after validation, refresh `/unsub` without query params --- ## Security: Klaviyo ID validation When a branded URL is active, Last Chance recommends enabling **Require Klaviyo ID validation** on your unsubscribe page. On a dedicated hostname, knowing someone’s email address can be enough to open their unsubscribe experience unless Klaviyo ID validation is enabled. With validation on, links must include a valid Klaviyo profile ID (typical for links from Klaviyo emails and hosted-page redirects). Enable it in the page editor under page settings if you use a branded URL in production. --- ## Clean URLs and preview mode ### Production visits 1. Subscriber arrives with `email` (and optionally tracking params) in the URL or via the redirect from Klaviyo 2. Last Chance confirms the address, stores it in an encrypted cookie, and redirects to `/unsub` **without** `email` or `teamId` 3. `/unsub` uses the cookie and hostname to load the correct page ### Preview from the dashboard Preview validates a test email on your branded host, then opens a clean URL such as: `https://your-brand.yourlastchance.app/unsub?preview=1&version=2&unsubscribePageId=…` Draft preview still requires a test email in the preview dialog; preview mode does not call Klaviyo for live profile updates. ### Share preview link (design approval) Use **Copy share link** in the preview dialog to get a public URL you can send to stakeholders (Slack, email, etc.). Recipients open the link with **no login and no test email** — it works indefinitely until the page or version is removed. The share URL looks like: `https://your-brand.yourlastchance.app/api/unsub/share-preview?t=…` Opening it loads the draft in preview mode (no Klaviyo writes, no analytics). --- ## Troubleshooting | Issue | What to check | | ---------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Save subdomain disabled** | Confirm you have an active paid subscription on the Account page | | **“Subdomain already taken”** | Pick a different slug; slugs are global across teams | | **Branded URL does not load** | Typo in slug or hostname; wait a few minutes after saving. If the problem persists, [contact support](mailto:support@yourlastchance.app). | | **Custom domain stuck on Pending** | Confirm DNS records match exactly what Account shows; propagation can take up to 48 hours | | **Page Not Found on branded host** | Typo in slug, domain removed, or page not published; an unknown hostname shows the same 404 as a missing page | | **Still seeing `teamId` in links** | Branded URL not saved, or link built against the shared app URL — re-copy Klaviyo hosted page HTML after activating branding | | **Preview opens wrong host** | Refresh the Account page; preview uses your current default branded URL | --- ## Related guides - [Billing & Account](./billing-account.md) — Subscription required for branded URLs - [Klaviyo Unsubscribe Hosted Page Setup](./klaviyo-hosted-page-setup.md) — Redirects use your branded URL when configured - [Klaviyo email links & consent](./klaviyo-email-links-and-consent-pages.md) — How unsubscribe clicks reach hosted pages - [Subscriber Experience](./subscriber-experience.md) — What subscribers see on your page --- # One-Click Unsubscribe Requirements (Gmail & Yahoo): What Klaviyo Senders Need to Know **Short answer:** Since February 2024, Gmail and Yahoo require bulk senders (roughly 5,000+ messages per day to their users) to support one-click unsubscribe using the `List-Unsubscribe` and `List-Unsubscribe-Post` email headers (RFC 8058), to honor opt-outs within two days, and to keep spam complaints low. Klaviyo adds these headers for you automatically. Your unsubscribe _landing page_ is a separate surface—and that's where Last Chance adds pause, preferences, and offers while keeping the required one-click path intact. ## What the Gmail and Yahoo rules actually require In early 2024, Google and Yahoo rolled out sender requirements aimed at reducing spam. For bulk senders, the headline rules are: - **Authenticate your email** with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. - **Support one-click unsubscribe** via the `List-Unsubscribe` and `List-Unsubscribe-Post` headers (the RFC 8058 standard), and process the request within two days. - **Keep your spam complaint rate low**—Google points to staying below 0.3%, and ideally under 0.1%. - **Send wanted mail** from properly configured domains. "Bulk sender" is generally understood as sending on the order of 5,000+ messages per day to Gmail addresses, but the practical takeaway is simpler: build your program as if the rules apply to you, because for most e-commerce brands they effectively do. ## What is RFC 8058 one-click unsubscribe? RFC 8058 defines a standard way for a mailbox provider to show a native "Unsubscribe" link at the top of an email and process the opt-out without the recipient ever leaving their inbox. It relies on two headers: - `List-Unsubscribe`: lists a URL (and optionally a mailto) for opting out. - `List-Unsubscribe-Post`: signals that a single `POST` to that URL completes the unsubscribe—no confirmation page, no extra click. When both are present and valid, Gmail and Yahoo render their own unsubscribe control, and one tap removes the recipient. ## Does Klaviyo handle this for me? Largely, yes. Klaviyo automatically includes `List-Unsubscribe` headers on marketing sends and supports the one-click (`List-Unsubscribe-Post`) flow, and it authenticates mail from a configured sending domain. You should still confirm your dedicated sending domain, DKIM/DMARC, and branded links are set up correctly in Klaviyo—but you generally do not hand-code these headers. ## Where does the unsubscribe landing page fit? Here's the distinction that trips people up: the header-based one-click unsubscribe (the inbox-level control) is **separate** from the unsubscribe **landing page**—the page a subscriber sees when they click the "unsubscribe" link inside your email body or a "manage preferences" link. - The **inbox one-click control** must exist and work; it removes the recipient immediately. You don't redesign this. - The **in-email unsubscribe link** and **manage-preferences link** point to a page you control (via [Klaviyo hosted pages](/docs/klaviyo-hosted-page-setup)). That page is where you can offer alternatives. Compliance is about making leaving easy. It does not require that the _only_ option be leaving. ## How Last Chance stays compliant while reducing unsubscribes Last Chance replaces the dead-end unsubscribe landing page with a branded page where subscribers can pause, adjust [frequency and topics](/docs/user-preferences), or take an offer—while a clear, one-click unsubscribe stays visible on the page. It does not touch or weaken the RFC 8058 inbox control, and it never hides the opt-out. You keep every compliance guarantee and add a retention layer around the moment of intent. See [how the Klaviyo unsubscribe link works](/articles/klaviyo-unsubscribe-link-guide) for the routing details. ## A quick compliance checklist for Klaviyo senders - Authenticate: dedicated sending domain with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC configured in Klaviyo. - Keep Klaviyo's `List-Unsubscribe` / one-click headers enabled (default on marketing sends). - Honor opt-outs promptly (well within two days—Klaviyo does this in real time). - Watch your spam complaint rate; suppress disengaged profiles with a [sunset flow](/docs/retention-health). - Keep the in-email unsubscribe and manage-preferences links clear—route them to a [branded page](/docs/klaviyo-preference-center-setup) that still offers one-click unsubscribe. ## FAQ ### Is a custom unsubscribe page allowed under the Gmail and Yahoo rules? Yes. The rules require that unsubscribing is easy and honored quickly, and that the inbox-level one-click control (RFC 8058) works. They do not prohibit a branded unsubscribe landing page that offers alternatives like pause or preferences—as long as a clear one-click unsubscribe remains available and opt-outs are processed promptly. ### Does Last Chance interfere with one-click unsubscribe? No. Last Chance changes the unsubscribe _landing page_ that in-email links point to; it does not alter the `List-Unsubscribe` headers Klaviyo sends or the inbox-level one-click control. The required opt-out paths keep working, and the unsubscribe button stays clearly visible on the Last Chance page. ### What counts as a bulk sender for Gmail and Yahoo? Google and Yahoo generally target senders delivering around 5,000 or more messages per day to their users, but the specific requirements—authentication, easy one-click unsubscribe, and low spam rates—are best practices for every sender. Build your program to meet them regardless of volume. ### How fast must I process an unsubscribe? Within two days. Klaviyo processes opt-outs in real time, so honoring this is automatic as long as you use Klaviyo's standard unsubscribe flow and headers. --- # Klaviyo Unsubscribe Page Examples: 7 Patterns That Retain Subscribers **Short answer:** The best Klaviyo unsubscribe pages replace the default "you've been unsubscribed" screen with a branded page that offers a choice—pause, adjust frequency or topics, or take an offer—while keeping one-click unsubscribe clearly visible. Below are seven proven patterns, when to use each, and how to build them on Klaviyo with a hosted page. ## Why the default Klaviyo unsubscribe page loses subscribers Klaviyo's default unsubscribe flow is a dead end: one confirmation, gone forever. But most people who click unsubscribe don't hate your brand—they're [experiencing frequency fatigue or topic mismatch](/articles/why-subscribers-unsubscribe). A page that offers a real choice at that moment converts many "leave entirely" clicks into "stay, but differently." These patterns all route through a [Klaviyo hosted page](/docs/klaviyo-hosted-page-setup), so they work across every campaign and flow without editing email templates. ## 1. Pause-first Lead with a time-boxed break—7, 30, or 90 days—that auto-resumes. This is the highest-impact pattern for high-frequency senders, because many unsubscribers just want a breather, not a breakup. See [pause vs. unsubscribe](/articles/pause-subscription-vs-unsubscribe). **Best for:** daily-deal and high-cadence senders. ## 2. Preference-first Put [frequency and topic controls](/docs/user-preferences) front and center: "Get fewer emails" or "Only hear about sales." A subscriber overwhelmed by daily sends may happily stay monthly. This is effectively a [branded Klaviyo preference center](/docs/klaviyo-preference-center-setup). **Best for:** brands with distinct content streams (education, product, promos). ## 3. Offer-led Present a targeted discount or perk at the moment of intent: "Before you go—here's 15% off." A well-timed offer can win back a subscriber who was one click from gone. **Best for:** promo-driven stores with margin to spend on retention. ## 4. Scratch-card / gamified Turn the exit into a moment of delight with an interactive [scratch-card reward](/articles/scratch-cards-boost-retention). The novelty itself re-engages, and revealing a reward gives a reason to stay. **Best for:** playful, consumer brands that want a memorable moment. ## 5. Feedback-capture Ask a single question—"Why are you leaving?"—with quick options (too many emails, not relevant, too expensive). You keep the one-click exit, but you learn _why_ people leave so you can fix the root cause. **Best for:** teams that want data to reduce unsubscribes upstream. ## 6. Minimalist compliant A clean, on-brand page with one clear alternative (usually pause) plus a prominent one-click unsubscribe. When in doubt, less is more: don't bury the exit or use guilt. This pattern prioritizes trust and [deliverability](/articles/one-click-unsubscribe-gmail-yahoo-requirements). **Best for:** brands that value simplicity and compliance above all. ## 7. Shop-instead For subscribers leaving out of promo fatigue rather than disinterest, surface a "Keep shopping" path—featured products or a storefront link—alongside the standard options. See [unsubscribe pages for Shopify brands](/articles/klaviyo-unsubscribe-page-for-shopify-brands). **Best for:** Shopify stores where email is one of several touchpoints. ## What every good example has in common - **One-click unsubscribe stays visible.** Retention should never mean trapping people—it also keeps you [compliant with Gmail and Yahoo rules](/articles/one-click-unsubscribe-gmail-yahoo-requirements). - **On-brand design.** The page should look like your store, not a generic form. - **A genuine choice, not a dark pattern.** Offer alternatives; don't hide the exit. - **Measurement.** Track how many visitors stay, pause, or update preferences—and, for Shopify brands, the [revenue you recover](/docs/analytics). ## How to build these on Klaviyo You don't hand-code each page. With Last Chance you connect Klaviyo via OAuth, start from a [template](/docs/page-templates) (or generate one from your site with AI), and route your unsubscribe link through a [Klaviyo hosted page](/docs/klaviyo-hosted-page-setup). Then [A/B test](/docs/ab-testing) patterns against each other and promote the winner. [Start a free trial](/auth/signup) to try them. ## FAQ ### What should a Klaviyo unsubscribe page include? At minimum, a clear one-click unsubscribe. The best pages add alternatives—pause, frequency and topic preferences, and sometimes an offer—on a branded design that matches your store. The alternatives are what convert would-be unsubscribers into retained subscribers. ### Can I customize Klaviyo's unsubscribe page? Yes. Using Klaviyo hosted pages, you can route every unsubscribe link to a custom, branded page without editing individual email templates. Last Chance provides the page, the templates, and the redirect setup. ### Which unsubscribe page pattern works best? For most high-frequency e-commerce senders, a pause-first or preference-first page is the highest-leverage choice, because many unsubscribers want less email rather than none. The reliable way to know for your list is to A/B test two patterns and compare retention. --- # Sunset Flows vs. Preference Centers: Two Ways to Fight Email List Churn **Short answer:** A sunset flow _proactively_ removes or suppresses disengaged subscribers before they hurt your deliverability; a preference center _reactively_ gives subscribers a way to stay on your list at a frequency or topic mix they actually want. They solve different halves of the churn problem, and the strongest Klaviyo programs run both. ## The two kinds of churn Email list churn comes from two directions: 1. **Silent disengagement**—people who stop opening but never unsubscribe. Left alone, they drag down open rates, deliverability, and sender reputation. 2. **Active exit**—people who click unsubscribe. Every one is a customer you can no longer email. Sunset flows address the first; preference centers and [branded unsubscribe pages](/articles/klaviyo-unsubscribe-link-guide) address the second. ## What is a sunset flow? A sunset flow is a Klaviyo automation that identifies profiles with no engagement over a defined window (say, 90–120 days of no opens or clicks), optionally sends a last-chance re-engagement email, and then suppresses those who still don't respond. The goal is to stop mailing people who aren't listening—before their inactivity poisons your metrics. - **Trigger:** prolonged disengagement. - **Direction:** proactive—you act before they complain or churn. - **Outcome:** a cleaner, more engaged list and better deliverability. Last Chance's [retention health](/docs/retention-health) audit checks whether you have a sunset flow (plus win-back and post-pause flows) configured. ## What is a preference center? A [preference center](/docs/user-preferences) is a page where subscribers choose how they hear from you—email frequency, topics, or a temporary [pause](/articles/pause-subscription-vs-unsubscribe)—instead of leaving entirely. On Klaviyo, you can route the "manage preferences" link (and the unsubscribe link) to a [branded Last Chance preference center](/docs/klaviyo-preference-center-setup). - **Trigger:** a subscriber choosing to adjust their relationship. - **Direction:** reactive—you catch intent at the moment someone considers leaving. - **Outcome:** retained subscribers on a cadence they tolerate, and fewer hard opt-outs. ## Sunset flow vs. preference center: side by side | | Sunset flow | Preference center | | --------------- | ----------------------- | ----------------------------------- | | Targets | Silently disengaged | Actively considering leaving | | Timing | Proactive | Reactive | | Mechanism | Suppress non-openers | Offer frequency/topic/pause choices | | Primary benefit | Protects deliverability | Retains subscribers | | Who initiates | You (automation) | The subscriber | ## Why you need both They're complementary, not competing. A preference center keeps willing subscribers on a lighter cadence; a sunset flow removes the truly disengaged so your engaged audience keeps landing in the inbox. Running only a sunset flow means you still lose people who would have stayed at a lower frequency. Running only a preference center means dead weight keeps dragging your reputation down. Together they reduce both silent decay and active churn. For the tactics that feed both, see [how to reduce your unsubscribe rate](/articles/how-to-reduce-email-unsubscribe-rate). ## Where Last Chance fits Last Chance powers the reactive side—branded unsubscribe and preference pages with pause, frequency, and topic controls—and its [retention health](/docs/retention-health) audit and [churn intelligence](/docs/churn-intelligence) tools help you stand up the proactive side (sunset, win-back, and post-pause flows) in Klaviyo. [Start a free trial](/auth/signup) to put both halves in place. ## FAQ ### What is the difference between a sunset flow and a preference center? A sunset flow proactively suppresses subscribers who have stopped engaging, protecting your deliverability. A preference center reactively lets subscribers choose a lower frequency, different topics, or a pause instead of unsubscribing. One cleans your list; the other retains people who would otherwise leave. ### Should I use a sunset flow or a preference center? Use both. They address different causes of list churn—silent disengagement versus active exit—and work best together. A preference center keeps willing subscribers at a tolerable cadence, while a sunset flow removes the truly unresponsive. ### Does a preference center hurt deliverability? No—done well, it helps. By letting subscribers dial down frequency or pause instead of unsubscribing (or worse, marking you as spam), a preference center reduces complaints and keeps more engaged recipients on your list. Pair it with a sunset flow to remove the genuinely disengaged. --- # Custom Klaviyo Unsubscribe Pages for Shopify Brands **Short answer:** If you run a Shopify store on Klaviyo, your unsubscribe page is a revenue lever you're probably ignoring. By routing Klaviyo's unsubscribe and manage-preferences links to a branded page—and connecting your Shopify orders—you can offer subscribers a reason to stay, then measure the actual dollars you recover. Last Chance is built for exactly this Klaviyo + Shopify combination. ## Why Shopify brands should care about the unsubscribe page For a Shopify brand, email is a top revenue channel, and every unsubscribe quietly shrinks it. The default Klaviyo unsubscribe page ends the relationship with a blank confirmation—no branding, no alternative, no measurement. Because you have Shopify order data, you can do something most senders can't: quantify what those departing subscribers are actually worth and what you win back. ## What "good" looks like for a Shopify + Klaviyo setup 1. **One branded page for both clicks.** Unsubscribe and "manage preferences" both land on a page that matches your storefront—same colors, type, and tone. 2. **Real alternatives.** Pause for 7/30/90 days, choose topics and frequency, or take an offer—rather than all-or-nothing. 3. **No template edits.** Route every email's links through a single [Klaviyo hosted page](/docs/klaviyo-hosted-page-setup) and redirect script. 4. **Revenue truth.** See the share of store revenue your unsubscribers represent, their AOV vs. your store average, and the revenue you recover from those who stayed and bought within 90 days. ## How to set it up ### 1. Connect Klaviyo and Shopify Connect Klaviyo via OAuth and link your Shopify store. Klaviyo powers the unsubscribe and preference pages; Shopify supplies the order history for revenue measurement. See the [setup guide](/docs/getting-started). ### 2. Build a branded page Start from a [template](/docs/page-templates) or paste your store URL to have AI generate a page matching your brand. No developers required. ### 3. Route Klaviyo's links to it Add the [unsubscribe hosted page](/docs/klaviyo-hosted-page-setup) and, for the "update preferences" link, the [preference center hosted page](/docs/klaviyo-preference-center-setup). Every email—past and future—now routes to your page. ### 4. See your Revenue Impact Once Shopify is connected, your [Revenue Impact dashboard](/docs/analytics) shows what your unsubscribers have actually spent and what you recover from subscribers who stay and purchase within 90 days. This is your own data, not industry averages. ## Discounts that work with Shopify Because you're on Shopify, you can present discount codes—including delayed-delivery codes emailed only after a subscriber stays—and [gamified scratch-card offers](/articles/scratch-cards-boost-retention) at the moment of unsubscribe intent. ## Stay compliant Keep a clear, one-click unsubscribe on every page and honor every request promptly. Last Chance is built for the Klaviyo + Shopify combination. It connects to Klaviyo via OAuth to power your branded unsubscribe and preference pages, and to Shopify to report the revenue your unsubscribers represent and the revenue you recover from subscribers who stayed and purchased. ### How do I measure the revenue impact of unsubscribes on Shopify? Connect your Shopify store so Last Chance can join your order history with Klaviyo unsubscriber data. The Revenue Impact dashboard then shows your unsubscribers' share of store revenue, their average order value versus your store average, and the dollars recovered from subscribers who stayed and bought within 90 days. ### Do I need a developer to set this up? No. You connect Klaviyo and Shopify, start from a template or generate a branded page with AI, and route Klaviyo's unsubscribe and preference links through hosted pages. No code or email-template edits are required. --- # How to Reduce Your Email Unsubscribe Rate **Short answer:** Lower your unsubscribe rate by sending more relevant email at the right frequency, and by giving subscribers alternatives to leaving—pause, topic and frequency preferences, and a branded unsubscribe page—instead of an all-or-nothing exit. The single highest-leverage change for most e-commerce brands is replacing the dead-end unsubscribe page with one that offers a choice. ## First, know what "good" looks like Unsubscribe rate is the percentage of recipients who opt out of a given send. It varies widely by industry, list source, and send frequency, so chase your own trend rather than a universal number. Before optimizing, read [email unsubscribe rate benchmarks](/articles/email-unsubscribe-rate-benchmarks) to interpret your rate with clear eyes—a rising trend or a spike on a specific campaign matters far more than any single "average." ## Why subscribers actually leave Most people don't unsubscribe because they hate your brand. They leave because of [frequency fatigue, topic mismatch, or seasonal disengagement](/articles/why-subscribers-unsubscribe)—reasons that a better choice at the moment of intent can often resolve. That's the core insight behind everything below. ## Tactics that lower unsubscribe rate ### 1. Offer pause instead of unsubscribe Many people who click unsubscribe just want a break, not a breakup. Offering a [time-bounded pause](/articles/pause-subscription-vs-unsubscribe) (7, 30, or 90 days) that auto-resumes keeps them on your list instead of losing them permanently. ### 2. Let subscribers manage frequency and topics A subscriber overwhelmed by daily sends may happily stay on a monthly cadence. One annoyed by promos may still want product education. A [preference center](/docs/user-preferences) with frequency and topic controls converts "leave entirely" into "hear from you less, or about different things." ### 3. Replace the dead-end unsubscribe page The default "you've been unsubscribed" page recovers no one. A [branded unsubscribe page](/articles/klaviyo-unsubscribe-link-guide) that presents stay, pause, preference, and offer options—while keeping one-click unsubscribe visible—turns the exit into a decision point. This is usually the biggest lever. ### 4. Right-size frequency and segment your sends Sending the same volume to everyone drives opt-outs. Use [exclusion segments](/docs/user-preferences) to honor stated frequency and topic choices, and suppress disengaged profiles with a [sunset flow](/docs/retention-health) before they unsubscribe out of irritation. ### 5. Match relevance to intent Personalize content and timing. The more a send feels written for the recipient, the less likely they are to leave. ### 6. Present an offer at the moment of intent A targeted discount or [scratch-card reward](/articles/scratch-cards-boost-retention) on the unsubscribe page can win back a subscriber who was one click from gone. ## Don't do this - Don't hide or bury the unsubscribe link. It hurts trust, deliverability, and compliance—and people will hit spam instead, which is far worse. - Don't use dark patterns or guilt. Give a genuine choice. ## Measure, then iterate Track your unsubscribe rate trend alongside how many visitors stay, pause, or update preferences, and—if you sell on Shopify—the [revenue you recover](/docs/analytics). Then [A/B test](/docs/ab-testing) page designs and offers to push results further. Last Chance brings these levers together: branded pages, pause and preference options, offers, and revenue measurement. [Start a free trial](/auth/signup) to put them in place. ## FAQ ### What is a good email unsubscribe rate? It varies widely by industry, list source, and send frequency, so focus on your own trend rather than a universal number. A sudden spike on a specific campaign or a steadily rising rate is a clearer signal than any single benchmark. See our benchmarks guide for how to interpret your rate. ### What's the fastest way to reduce unsubscribes? For most e-commerce brands, the highest-leverage change is replacing the default dead-end unsubscribe page with one that offers alternatives—pause, frequency and topic preferences, and an offer—while keeping one-click unsubscribe visible. That converts many "leave entirely" clicks into "stay, but differently." ### Does offering a pause option really help? Yes. Many subscribers who click unsubscribe want a break rather than a permanent exit. A time-bounded pause (for example 7, 30, or 90 days) that automatically resumes keeps them on your list instead of losing them for good. --- # How to Create a Custom Unsubscribe Page in Klaviyo **Short answer:** Klaviyo lets you point every unsubscribe link to a custom hosted page instead of its default confirmation screen. You create a Klaviyo hosted page, drop in a small redirect snippet, and route the unsubscribe click to your own branded page. With Last Chance, that page can offer pause, topic and frequency preferences, and a discount—while still honoring one-click unsubscribe. Here's how to set it up. ## Why customize the unsubscribe page at all? By default, the Klaviyo unsubscribe link sends subscribers to a plain confirmation: "You've been unsubscribed." That's a dead end—the customer is gone and there's no chance to keep them. A custom page turns that moment into a choice: stay, pause, adjust preferences, or take an offer. For the background on how the link itself works, see [how the Klaviyo unsubscribe link works](/articles/klaviyo-unsubscribe-link-guide). ## Step 1: Decide what you want the page to do Before wiring anything up, decide the options to offer: - **One-click unsubscribe** (always—keep it visible and working) - **Pause** for a set period (e.g. 7/30/90 days) that auto-resumes - **Topic preferences** (what they hear about) - **Frequency preferences** (how often) - **An offer** (a discount or reward to win them back) ## Step 2: Build the branded page You can hand-build a page and host it yourself, but that means coding the design plus the Klaviyo API integration, profile-property syncing, and suppression logic. With Last Chance, you connect Klaviyo via OAuth and either start from a [template](/docs/page-templates) or paste your website URL to have AI generate a page that matches your brand—no code required. ## Step 3: Route Klaviyo's unsubscribe link to it This is the key step, and it's where a hosted page shines. Instead of editing every email template, you create one **Klaviyo hosted page** containing a small redirect script. Every unsubscribe link across all your emails—past and future—then routes to your custom page automatically. Follow the [Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page setup guide](/docs/klaviyo-hosted-page-setup) for the exact steps and snippet. For the manage-preferences ("update your preferences") link, you add a second hosted page using the [preference center setup guide](/docs/klaviyo-preference-center-setup). ## Step 4: Keep it compliant A custom page must still make leaving easy: - Show a clear, one-click unsubscribe button—never hide or bury it. - Match your email's branding so the page reads as trustworthy, not as a trick. - Honor every unsubscribe request promptly. Customization should add choices, not friction. A page that hides the exit damages trust and deliverability. ## Step 5: Measure what it recovers Once live, track the outcomes: how many visitors stay, pause, or update preferences, and—if you connect Shopify—the [revenue you recover](/docs/analytics) from subscribers who stayed and purchased within 90 days. Then [A/B test](/docs/ab-testing) designs and offers to improve results. ## The fast path If you'd rather skip the engineering, Last Chance does steps 2–5 for you: branded page, hosted-page routing, pause and preference options, offers, and revenue analytics. [Start a free trial](/auth/signup) or read the [setup guide](/docs/getting-started). ## FAQ ### Can you customize the unsubscribe page in Klaviyo? Yes. Klaviyo supports custom hosted pages, so you can route the unsubscribe link to your own branded page instead of the default confirmation screen. You create a hosted page with a redirect snippet, and every unsubscribe link in your emails points to your custom page—no need to edit individual templates. ### Do I have to edit every email template? No. Using a Klaviyo hosted page with a redirect script, every unsubscribe link across all your past and future emails routes to your custom page automatically. You set it up once. ### Is a custom unsubscribe page still compliant? Yes, as long as you keep a clear, working one-click unsubscribe and honor every request promptly. A compliant custom page adds choices (pause, preferences, offers) without hiding the option to leave. --- # How to Choose a Klaviyo Unsubscribe & Preference Center App **Short answer:** When subscribers click unsubscribe or "manage preferences" in a Klaviyo email, you have three realistic options for where that click lands: Klaviyo's native preferences page, a custom-built page you host yourself, or a dedicated app like Last Chance. The right choice depends on how much you want to brand the experience, whether you want to offer pause and preference options, and whether you need to measure recovered revenue. This guide gives you the criteria to decide. ## The three approaches ### 1. Klaviyo's native subscription preferences page Built in, free, and compliant. Subscribers can opt out of lists or unsubscribe globally on a generic Klaviyo-styled page. There's no branding, no pause option, and no topic/frequency choices beyond list membership. Best for small or low-frequency programs that only need bare-minimum opt-out. See [Last Chance vs. Klaviyo's native preference center](/articles/klaviyo-preference-center-vs-native) for the full comparison. ### 2. A custom-built page you host yourself If you have engineering resources, you can build a custom unsubscribe/preference page and wire it into Klaviyo's hosted-page or webhook flows. You get full control, but you own all the work: design, the Klaviyo API integration, profile-property syncing, suppression logic, segment exclusions for topics and frequency, analytics, and ongoing maintenance. This rarely pays off unless retention pages are core to your product. ### 3. A dedicated unsubscribe/preference center app Purpose-built apps handle the Klaviyo integration, branded pages, pause and preference flows, and analytics for you. **Last Chance** is one such app, built specifically for Klaviyo and Shopify brands; other third-party tools exist in the email-retention and preference-management space as well. Evaluate any app against the criteria below. ## What to evaluate Use this checklist when comparing options: - **One-click unsubscribe and compliance.** Whatever you choose must keep a clear, working unsubscribe—no dark patterns. This is non-negotiable for sender reputation and deliverability. - **No email-template edits.** The best setups route every unsubscribe link (past and future emails) through a single [Klaviyo hosted page](/docs/klaviyo-hosted-page-setup) and redirect script, so you don't touch individual templates. - **Pause as an alternative.** Can subscribers take a [time-bounded break](/articles/pause-subscription-vs-unsubscribe) (e.g. 7/30/90 days) that auto-resumes, instead of leaving permanently? - **Topic and frequency preferences.** Can subscribers choose what they hear about and how often, with those choices [synced to Klaviyo](/docs/user-preferences) and enforced via exclusion segments? - **Branding.** Does the page match your storefront, or does it look like a foreign system (which reads as a dark pattern)? - **Offers at the moment of intent.** Can you present a discount or reward to win back someone about to leave? - **Revenue measurement.** Can you see the [revenue your unsubscribers represent](/docs/analytics) and the revenue you actually recover from people who stayed and bought—not just a "% stayed" rate? - **Setup effort.** OAuth connection and templates vs. a developer project. ## How Last Chance approaches it Last Chance is built for Klaviyo + Shopify e-commerce brands and covers the checklist above: it powers both the unsubscribe and manage-preferences clicks through Klaviyo hosted pages (no template edits), adds pause and topic/frequency controls, lets you present offers, and reports revenue impact and 90-day recovered revenue from your own Shopify data—while always keeping one-click unsubscribe visible. You can [start a free trial](/auth/signup) or install it from the Shopify App Store. ## Bottom line - **Just need compliant opt-out?** Klaviyo's native page is fine. - **Have engineers and unusual requirements?** Build your own. - **Want branded retention plus revenue measurement without a dev project?** Use a dedicated app like Last Chance. ## FAQ ### What are the options for a Klaviyo unsubscribe and preference center? Three: Klaviyo's built-in subscription preferences page (free, basic, unbranded), a custom page you build and host yourself (full control, significant engineering), or a dedicated app like Last Chance that provides branded pages, pause and preference options, and revenue analytics without template edits. ### How do I choose the right one? Match the option to your needs. Use the native page for bare-minimum compliant opt-out on small programs. Build your own only if retention pages are core to your product and you have engineering capacity. Otherwise, pick a dedicated app and evaluate it on one-click unsubscribe, branding, pause and preference options, offers, and revenue measurement. ### Does Last Chance work with both Klaviyo and Shopify? Yes. Last Chance connects to Klaviyo via OAuth to power your unsubscribe and preference pages, and to Shopify to report the revenue your unsubscribers represent and the revenue you recover from subscribers who stayed and purchased within 90 days. --- # Last Chance vs. Klaviyo's Native Preference Center: Which Should You Use? **Short answer:** Klaviyo's built-in subscription preferences page is fine for basic, compliant opt-down, but it's a plain, unbranded form with limited options. Last Chance replaces both your unsubscribe page and your manage-preferences page with a branded experience that adds pause, topic and frequency controls, and offers—while keeping one-click unsubscribe clear and compliant. If you only need a checkbox to manage list membership, the native page works. If you want to actually retain subscribers and measure recovered revenue, use Last Chance. ## What Klaviyo's native preference center does Klaviyo can host a default subscription-preferences page that subscribers reach from the `{% manage_preferences %}` link (or the unsubscribe link) in your emails. Out of the box it lets people: - See the lists they're subscribed to - Opt out of specific lists or unsubscribe globally - Confirm the change on a generic, Klaviyo-styled page It's compliant and requires no extra tools. But it's also a dead end for retention: there's no branding to speak of, no way to pause instead of leave, and no topic or frequency choices beyond the lists you've created. Most subscribers who land there either leave or close the tab. ## What Last Chance adds Last Chance powers the same two clicks—**unsubscribe** and **manage preferences**—through [Klaviyo hosted pages](/docs/klaviyo-hosted-page-setup), so you don't edit individual email templates. The difference is what subscribers can do once they arrive: - **Pause instead of unsubscribe.** Offer a 7, 30, or 90-day break that auto-resumes, so fatigued subscribers take a breather instead of leaving for good. See [pause subscription vs. unsubscribe](/articles/pause-subscription-vs-unsubscribe). - **Topic and frequency preferences.** Let people choose what they hear about and how often, synced back to Klaviyo profile properties and enforced with [exclusion segments](/docs/user-preferences). - **Branded design.** The page matches your storefront's colors, type, and tone—native pages don't. - **Offers at the moment of intent.** Present a discount or [scratch-card reward](/articles/scratch-cards-boost-retention) to win back someone who was about to go. - **Revenue measurement.** Connect Shopify to see the revenue your unsubscribers represent and the [revenue you recover](/docs/analytics) from people who stayed and bought within 90 days. - **Always-visible one-click unsubscribe.** Choice, not friction—no dark patterns. ## Side-by-side | Capability | Klaviyo native preferences | Last Chance | | ----------------------------------- | -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- | | One-click unsubscribe | Yes | Yes | | Branded to your store | No | Yes | | Pause subscription | No | Yes (7/30/90 days) | | Topic & frequency choices | List opt-out only | Yes | | Offers / discounts | No | Yes | | Revenue impact & recovery analytics | No | Yes | | Setup | Built in | One Klaviyo hosted page + redirect script | ## When the native page is enough If you send infrequently, have a tiny list, or only need bare-minimum compliance, the native page is genuinely fine—it's free and built in. You don't need another tool to honor unsubscribes. ## When to switch to Last Chance Choose Last Chance when unsubscribes are costing you real revenue and a plain opt-out page is leaving retention on the table. It's built for e-commerce brands on Klaviyo and Shopify who want every unsubscribe click to become a choice—stay, pause, adjust, or leave—and who want to see the dollars they recover. See the [Klaviyo preference center setup guide](/docs/klaviyo-preference-center-setup) for how the manage-preferences hosted page is configured. ## FAQ ### Does Last Chance replace Klaviyo's preference center? Yes. Last Chance powers both your Klaviyo unsubscribe page and your manage-preferences page through Klaviyo hosted pages, so subscribers land on your branded experience with pause, topic, and frequency controls instead of the default form. No email template edits are required. ### Is Klaviyo's native preference center good enough? For basic, compliant list opt-out on a small or low-frequency program, yes. It's free and built in. But it's an unbranded form with no pause option, no topic or frequency choices beyond list membership, and no retention or revenue measurement—so it rarely keeps subscribers who were about to leave. ### Do I lose one-click unsubscribe if I use Last Chance? No. Last Chance always shows a clear, one-click unsubscribe option. The goal is to give subscribers a real choice—pause, adjust preferences, or leave—not to trap them. --- # How to Build a Klaviyo Email Preference Center That Actually Retains Subscribers Most brands treat the unsubscribe link as the last touchpoint before a subscriber disappears. The **manage preferences** link, sitting right next to it in the email footer, gets even less attention. That's a mistake. A well-designed Klaviyo email preference center is one of the highest-leverage retention assets a brand can ship—and it requires no template changes to deploy. This guide walks through what a preference center actually is, how Klaviyo handles it out of the box, and how to build one with Last Chance that retains the subscribers Klaviyo's default page would lose. ## What an email preference center is (and isn't) An **email preference center** is a page where subscribers control how they hear from you—topic, frequency, format, channel—instead of only being given a binary stay-or-leave choice. It is not: - An unsubscribe page (though it usually contains one) - A signup form - A profile edit screen for e-commerce account data The distinction that matters: when someone clicks **manage preferences** in your footer, they've raised their hand to keep the conversation going. They want adjustments, not divorce. The default Klaviyo preference page doesn't reflect that intent—it's a thin form with little branding and no concept of pause. A purpose-built preference center does. ## How Klaviyo handles preferences by default Klaviyo ships a basic preference page with every account. By default, when subscribers click a `{% manage_preferences %}` link in your emails, they land on Klaviyo's standard form where they can: - Update their email address - Choose which lists to be on (if you've enabled per-list options) - Unsubscribe entirely That's it. There's no concept of email frequency. No topic selection beyond list membership. No pause option. No branded design that matches the email they came from. If you want any of that, you have two paths: 1. **Klaviyo Hosted Pages** — Code your own HTML/CSS/JS page from scratch and host it through Klaviyo's hosted page infrastructure. Powerful but requires engineering. 2. **A platform like Last Chance** — Use a managed solution that runs on top of Klaviyo hosted pages, with the preference center, pause flow, and branding handled for you. This article covers option 2. For the manual path, Klaviyo's [hosted pages documentation](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005077067) is the canonical reference. ## What belongs on a high-retention preference center Before wiring anything up, decide what choices to offer. The preference centers that move retention numbers share a small set of components: **Email frequency controls.** Most subscribers who click unsubscribe are frequency-fatigued, not brand-disenchanted. Letting them pick "weekly" or "monthly" instead of "remove me" reclaims a meaningful share of would-be unsubscribes. Klaviyo segments on a custom profile property—Last Chance writes that property for you. **Topic preferences.** "What are you interested in?" with two to five checkboxes (sales, new products, restocks, educational content) gives subscribers a sense of control and gives you segmentation data for free. Even subscribers who don't change anything signal interest by leaving boxes checked. **Pause subscription.** A time-bounded opt-out. Subscribers picking "pause for 30 days" stay on the list, get suppressed for the duration, and automatically resume. For seasonal or fatigued subscribers, this is often the right answer. See [Pause subscription vs. unsubscribe](/articles/pause-subscription-vs-unsubscribe) for the case behind this. **A visible, working unsubscribe link.** Always. The whole point of a preference center is to be a better choice than unsubscribing—but it has to be a _choice_. Hiding or de-emphasizing unsubscribe damages trust and violates compliance norms. **Branding that matches the email they came from.** A preference center that looks like a foreign system reads as a dark pattern. Match your typography, colors, and tone. ## Two Klaviyo links, two hosted pages A common mistake is configuring only the unsubscribe hosted page and leaving the manage-preferences link routed to Klaviyo's default. That covers exit traffic but ignores the subscribers actively asking for adjustments—the easiest cohort to retain. In Klaviyo, the two template tags resolve to different consent flows: - `{% unsubscribe %}` and `{% unsubscribe_link %}` — Routes through your **email unsubscribe** consent page. - `{% manage_preferences %}` and `{% manage_preferences_link %}` — Routes through your **preferences** consent page. Both can be wired to Last Chance hosted pages with the same redirect script and one extra attribute on the preferences variant (`data-entry="preferences"`). The setup is two hosted pages, not one. For step-by-step instructions, see [Klaviyo preference center hosted page setup](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/klaviyo-preference-center-setup). The result: every click on manage preferences in any existing campaign or flow lands on your Last Chance preference center, with no template changes needed. ## Step-by-step: connecting Last Chance to Klaviyo's preference center link The high-level flow looks like this. Detailed screenshots are in [the docs](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/klaviyo-preference-center-setup). 1. **Build your Last Chance page.** In the Last Chance dashboard, configure the topics, frequency options, and pause durations you want to expose. Publish the page. 2. **Connect Klaviyo via OAuth.** Settings → Email Providers in Last Chance. This grants the access needed to generate your personalized redirect script. 3. **Create a Klaviyo hosted page for preferences.** In Klaviyo, navigate to Settings → Other → Hosted pages. Create a new page (call it `last_chance_preferences` or similar), paste in the Last Chance preferences variant of the redirect script, and save. 4. **Assign it as your preferences consent page.** In Klaviyo's consent pages settings, set this hosted page as the destination for **manage preferences** clicks. 5. **(Recommended) Repeat for the unsubscribe link.** A separate hosted page with the standard redirect script, assigned as the unsubscribe consent page. Now both links route to Last Chance. 6. **Test.** Send yourself a campaign with `{% manage_preferences %}` in the footer. Click it. Confirm the Last Chance preferences screen loads with the right options. ## Measuring whether your preference center is working Once it's live, the metrics that matter are: - **Preference adoption rate** — % of manage-preferences clickers who actually save a change. Indicates whether your options feel useful. - **Unsubscribe deflection from preferences** — Subscribers who landed via manage preferences and chose to update settings, rather than clicking through to unsubscribe. - **Pause uptake** — Particularly seasonal cohorts (December clearance buyers in March, holiday gift hunters in April). - **Frequency distribution** — How your list segments shift over time. A healthy preference center often shows a meaningful "monthly" cohort that didn't exist before. Last Chance surfaces these in the analytics dashboard. For your raw Klaviyo data, segment on the frequency profile property to see the new distribution. ## What to configure next The preference center is rarely deployed in isolation. [Get started with Last Chance →](https://www.yourlastchance.app)_ --- # Email Unsubscribe Rate Benchmarks: What's Normal, What Isn't, and What to Do About It Every quarter, email marketers run the same ritual: pull the numbers, squint at the unsubscribe rate, and ask _is this bad?_ It's a reasonable question—and a surprisingly hard one to answer honestly. Benchmarks are everywhere, but they're also frequently misread, cherry-picked, or calculated differently than your own data. This article cuts through the noise so you can evaluate your list health with clear eyes and act on what actually matters. ## How "unsubscribe rate" gets calculated (and why it matters) Before you compare your number to anything, confirm how you're measuring. The standard formula: > **Unsubscribe rate = Unsubscribes ÷ Emails delivered** That sounds simple, but variations accumulate fast: - Some ESPs surface **unique unsubscribes**; others count raw clicks. - Some benchmarks measure **per-campaign**; others roll up monthly list churn. - Klaviyo's dashboard counts profiles who triggered an unsubscribe event—not all ESP tools define that the same way. A "0.5% unsubscribe rate" from one source and "0.1% unsubscribe rate" from another can be measuring completely different things. When you benchmark, match the formula first. ## What industry data actually shows Industry roundups—including ESP-published reports and platforms like [HubSpot's marketing statistics resource](https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics)—tend to cluster healthy commercial email programs in the **0.1% to 0.5% unsubscribe rate per send**. A few things that push you toward the higher end: - **High send frequency.** A brand emailing daily will see more cumulative churn than one emailing weekly, even with identical content quality. - **Promotional versus behavioral.** Blast campaigns to full lists typically unsubscribe at a higher rate than triggered flows (post-purchase, welcome, win-back) because the audience is colder or less engaged relative to that moment. - **List hygiene history.** A recently cleaned list of actively engaged subscribers will churn slower than a legacy list that was never pruned. - **Acquisition source.** Subscribers who opted in via a high-intent signup form behave differently from those acquired through a giveaway or co-registration. The number that matters is not the industry average—it's **your trend over time** on sends with similar segment, frequency, and intent. ## Why people search "average unsubscribe rate" (and what that search actually reveals) When this query spikes in search tools, it's almost never casual curiosity. Marketers reach for it when: - **A number is hard to explain to leadership.** Benchmarks provide external cover for internal performance. - **Something just changed.** A new campaign format, a list-acquisition shift, or a frequency increase and now the rate looks different. - **Deliverability is under review.** High unsubscribes correlate with spam complaints; some teams use benchmarks to argue their list is healthy before an ESP review. If you're in one of these situations, a blog benchmark won't solve the underlying question. What will: drilling into which **segment, campaign, and send time** the spike is coming from. ## The four actual levers for reducing unsubscribe rate Sustainable improvement doesn't come from hiding the unsubscribe option or engineering dark patterns. It comes from fixing the reasons people leave. ### 1. Send frequency Too many emails is the single most common driver. Research on why subscribers leave consistently puts frequency overwhelm at 40–50% of reasons. Testing a reduced cadence for fatigued segments—or letting subscribers choose their own frequency—moves the needle faster than almost anything else. ### 2. Content relevance A subscriber who signed up for sale alerts and receives daily "brand story" content is a countdown to unsubscribe. Topic misalignment accounts for roughly 20–30% of opt-outs in behavioral studies. An email preference center where subscribers opt into topic categories dramatically reduces this. ### 3. A pause option before the permanent door Many people who click "unsubscribe" don't hate you—they're overwhelmed right now. Life is busy. Travel happens. Budget tightens. A **pause subscription** option (7 days, 30 days, 90 days) intercepts frequency-fatigued subscribers before they make a permanent decision. Brands offering pause consistently see 15–25% of would-be unsubscribers choose a break instead. ### 4. Expectation alignment at signup If your welcome series doesn't match what you actually send, you're pre-loading unsubscribes. Auditing signup copy, lead magnet promises, and week-one email content against your live sending cadence is free to do and frequently uncovers large gaps. ## What the unsubscribe moment itself costs you The unsubscribe page is the last interaction you have with a leaving subscriber. Most ESPs offer a flat "You've been unsubscribed" confirmation—no options, no conversation, no chance to learn or retain. That's a wasted moment at scale. The cost compounds: for a brand with 50,000 subscribers sending weekly, even a 0.3% average unsubscribe rate means 150 people leaving every week. If even 20% of them would have chosen to pause or adjust preferences instead of leaving permanently—that's 30 subscribers per week, over 1,500 per year, whose future purchase value you kept. See our article on [the hidden cost of email unsubscribes](/articles/hidden-cost-of-email-unsubscribes) for a fuller breakdown of what that means in revenue terms. ## Where Last Chance fits Last Chance replaces the default Klaviyo unsubscribe experience with a branded page that gives subscribers a real choice: stay, pause, update preferences, or leave. It's the difference between losing 100% of departing visitors and converting some portion of them into paused or preference-adjusted subscribers who will hear from you again. - For how the Klaviyo unsubscribe link connects to a hosted page, see [our setup guide](/articles/klaviyo-unsubscribe-link-guide). - For preference center wiring, see [Klaviyo preference center setup](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/klaviyo-preference-center-setup) in the docs. ## The bottom line on benchmarks Industry average unsubscribe rate figures are useful for one thing: confirming you're not catastrophically out of range. Beyond that, they're a distraction. Your trend, by segment and send type, is the only benchmark that drives decisions worth making. Keep the unsubscribe link visible and compliant. Fix the send frequency. Give subscribers alternatives at the moment they're about to leave. That's where sustainable improvement lives. --- _Ready to turn your unsubscribe page into a retention tool? [Learn how Last Chance can help →](https://www.yourlastchance.app)_ --- # Pause Subscription vs. Unsubscribe: The Distinction That Saves Lists There's a moment every email marketer dreads: opening the campaign report and watching the unsubscribe count tick up. The instinct is to diagnose content, subject lines, or send time. Those levers matter—but they all operate before the subscriber makes their decision. There's a different question worth asking: _What happens after they click unsubscribe?_ For most brands, the answer is: nothing. A confirmation page, a record in the database, a contact lost. What brands rarely consider is that a significant share of those subscribers didn't actually want to leave forever. They wanted a break. And nobody offered them one. ## What's really happening when someone clicks unsubscribe Subscribers who click the unsubscribe link aren't a monolith. Research into email behavior consistently surfaces a few distinct groups: - **Frequency-fatigued** (~40–50%): They like the brand. They're just overwhelmed. Work picked up, inbox got crowded, a busy stretch collided with a high-volume send cadence. Given a quiet option, many would take it. - **Topic-mismatched** (~20–30%): They signed up for one thing and kept getting another. Preference drift over time, or a campaign that felt off-brand, tipped the balance. - **Seasonally disengaged** (~15–20%): Their interest is cyclical. They bought in December; it's March and they don't need you right now. They'll be back—unless they've already left the list. - **Genuinely done** (~10–20%): Real disinterest or inbox policy. These should be honored cleanly and promptly, full stop. The default unsubscribe page treats all four groups the same: confirmation, done. That's a blunt instrument for a nuanced problem. ## What a pause subscription actually is A pause is a time-bounded opt-out. The subscriber's email is suppressed for a defined period—say, 30 days—after which they resume receiving emails automatically, or receive a re-engagement prompt. They stay on the list. They didn't unsubscribe. They just took a breath. Pause mechanics vary depending on your email platform and compliance setup. In Klaviyo, pause is typically implemented via profile properties or segment-based suppression. Last Chance manages the timing and re-engagement flow as part of the hosted unsubscribe experience. The key product principle: subscribers are given a **positive choice** ("I'll come back in a month") instead of only a **terminal one** ("remove me forever"). ## Why it works—and where the limits are When pause is visible at the same moment as unsubscribe, a meaningful share of frequency-fatigued and seasonally disengaged subscribers choose it. We see brands converting 15–25% of would-be unsubscribers into paused subscribers, who then re-engage when the pause lifts. That's not just a retention stat—it's a revenue protection number. A subscriber who pauses for 30 days and then buys during your next seasonal campaign is worth far more than one who left the list in March and missed the May collection launch. That said, pause is not a workaround for bad list hygiene or unwanted email: - Subscribers who are genuinely uninterested should be unsubscribed. Keeping them paused indefinitely inflates your list and hurts deliverability. - Pause should never be the _only_ option. A clear, working unsubscribe link must always be present and honored immediately. That's table stakes for compliance and trust. - The pause duration should be honest. If you offer "pause for 30 days," the emails stop for 30 days. No nudge campaigns, no workarounds. ## Pause vs. unsubscribe in practice | | Pause subscription | Unsubscribe | | ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | What happens to the subscriber | Suppressed temporarily; returns after duration | Removed from marketing sends per your process and regulations | | Best fit | Frequency fatigue, seasonal disengagement, short-term overwhelm | True disinterest, explicit "stop all" requests, compliance-driven removals | | List health impact | Retains a reachable, opted-in contact | Shrinks list; correct outcome when the subscriber genuinely wants out | | Revenue implication | Keeps future purchase potential alive | Ends it (unless they re-subscribe later) | ## The preference layer: complementary, not redundant Pause and preferences solve adjacent problems. Pause is about timing—"I need quiet right now." Preferences are about content—"I want less of this, more of that." Offering both at the unsubscribe moment is significantly more effective than offering either alone: - A subscriber annoyed by daily flash sale emails might choose to receive just new product announcements instead. - A subscriber overwhelmed by volume might pause for 30 days and then return to a reduced-frequency preference. Both of these outcomes are better than a hard unsubscribe. Last Chance surfaces pause options, email preference topics, and frequency controls on the same branded page—so subscribers can self-select the arrangement that keeps them on the list. See [subscriber experience in the docs](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/subscriber-experience) for how those states (initial, stayed, paused, preference-updated) play out in a live Last Chance page. ## The setup question If you're running Klaviyo, the unsubscribe link in your emails routes through Klaviyo's consent system. To show a pause option there, you need to redirect that link to a hosted page you control—that's where Last Chance connects. For the full wiring, see our [Klaviyo unsubscribe link guide](/articles/klaviyo-unsubscribe-link-guide). ## What to read next - [Email unsubscribe rate benchmarks](/articles/email-unsubscribe-rate-benchmarks) — what the numbers actually mean and how to read them without false precision - [Why subscribers unsubscribe](/articles/why-subscribers-unsubscribe) — the motivations in more detail, and what to offer each group - [Klaviyo unsubscribe link guide](/articles/klaviyo-unsubscribe-link-guide) — routing Klaviyo's unsubscribe link to your Last Chance hosted page --- _Offer pause, preferences, and a graceful exit—all on one page subscribers already see. [Get started with Last Chance →](https://www.yourlastchance.app)_ --- # How the Klaviyo Unsubscribe Link Works (and How to Route It to Last Chance) If you send email through Klaviyo, every marketing message you send includes an unsubscribe link. It's required. But "required" doesn't mean "default is fine"—the experience subscribers get when they click that link is entirely within your control, and most brands have never changed it from Klaviyo's out-of-the-box confirmation page. This guide explains how Klaviyo's unsubscribe system actually works, where you can intervene, and how to connect it to Last Chance so clicks land on a branded page that offers real alternatives. ## How Klaviyo's unsubscribe link works under the hood When you use Klaviyo's drag-and-drop editor or their template tags, the unsubscribe link in your email isn't a plain URL you control. It's generated dynamically by Klaviyo and routes through their consent infrastructure. That system does three things: 1. **Tracks the click** as an unsubscribe event tied to the specific profile. 2. **Records consent** (or revocation of consent) in Klaviyo's compliance layer. 3. **Sends the subscriber to a destination page**—by default, Klaviyo's own hosted confirmation screen. Step three is the one you can change. ## Template tags vs. the editor's unsubscribe block Klaviyo gives you two ways to insert an unsubscribe link in your emails: - **Template tags**: `{% unsubscribe %}` renders a full hyperlinked "Unsubscribe" text; `{% unsubscribe_link %}` gives you the raw URL to use in your own anchor tag. These ensure the link runs through Klaviyo's consent system. - **Editor block**: Klaviyo's drag-and-drop editor has a built-in footer block that inserts the unsubscribe link automatically. Both route through the same Klaviyo consent infrastructure. The distinction matters when you're customizing template HTML or troubleshooting why clicks aren't being tracked. For the full tag reference and how they interact with consent pages, see our docs on [Klaviyo email links and consent pages](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/klaviyo-email-links-and-consent-pages). ## What "hosted pages" are and why they matter Klaviyo allows you to create **hosted pages**—custom HTML pages served under Klaviyo's infrastructure—for the unsubscribe and manage-preferences flows. When a subscriber clicks your unsubscribe link, Klaviyo can redirect them to one of these pages instead of the default confirmation screen. This is the mechanism that makes Last Chance possible without touching a single email template. When you configure a Last Chance hosted page in Klaviyo: - Every existing email in every active campaign and flow automatically routes through the new page. - You don't need to update links or re-publish templates. - Klaviyo's consent recording still happens—Last Chance sits on top of the flow, not around it. The subscriber sees your branded page with pause, preferences, and offers. If they click "unsubscribe," Klaviyo processes it exactly as before. The redirect is transparent. ## The unsubscribe link vs. the manage-preferences link These are separate flows in Klaviyo, and they should be configured separately: **Unsubscribe link** (`{% unsubscribe %}` / `{% unsubscribe_link %}`) — This is for subscribers actively trying to leave. A Last Chance hosted page here intercepts that intent and offers alternatives: pause, frequency controls, a discount. Unsubscribing is still available, clearly, in one click. **Manage preferences link** (`{% manage_preferences %}` / `{% manage_preferences_link %}`) — This is for subscribers who want to adjust their relationship without leaving. Routing this to a second Last Chance hosted page (configured with `data-entry="preferences"`) means those clicks land on your topic and frequency controls instead of a generic Klaviyo form. Brands that configure both get coverage at both points of subscriber friction—not just the exit. ## Step-by-step: connecting Last Chance to Klaviyo's unsubscribe link Here's the high-level flow. Detailed screenshots and code snippets for each step live in [Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page setup](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/klaviyo-hosted-page-setup) in the docs. 1. **Create and publish your Last Chance unsubscribe page.** Build your page in the Last Chance dashboard, configure the pause options and offers you want to show, and publish it. 2. **Connect Klaviyo to Last Chance via OAuth.** This happens in Last Chance's settings under Email Providers. OAuth gives Last Chance the ability to generate the redirect script scoped to your account. 3. **Enable hosted pages in Klaviyo.** Navigate to Klaviyo's Consent Pages settings and turn on the hosted pages feature for your account. 4. **Create a new hosted page in Klaviyo.** Paste in the Last Chance script. The script tells Klaviyo to redirect unsubscribe-link clicks to your Last Chance page, passing the profile context (email, Klaviyo ID) through so Last Chance can show the right experience. 5. **Set this page as your unsubscribe hosted page** in Klaviyo's settings. 6. **Test.** Send a test email to yourself, click the unsubscribe link, and confirm you see your Last Chance page. Click "unsubscribe" on that page and confirm Klaviyo processes it. The Klaviyo profile should reflect the unsubscribe event. ## A note for brands reading this who aren't Klaviyo users This guide is written for email marketers configuring their sending platform. If you're a subscriber trying to remove yourself from a specific brand's email list, the right path is the unsubscribe link in any of their emails or their preference center—brands are legally required to honor those requests. This article isn't about that process. ## What to configure next Once your unsubscribe hosted page is live, the logical next step is the preferences page: - [Klaviyo preference center setup](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/klaviyo-preference-center-setup) — routes manage-preferences clicks to Last Chance - [Pause subscription vs. unsubscribe](/articles/pause-subscription-vs-unsubscribe) — understanding what subscribers actually want when they try to leave - [Email unsubscribe rate benchmarks](/articles/email-unsubscribe-rate-benchmarks) — reading your unsubscribe numbers in context once the page is live --- _Connect your Klaviyo unsubscribe link to a page that works. [Get started with Last Chance →](https://www.yourlastchance.app)_ --- # The Hidden Cost of Email Unsubscribes for E-Commerce Brands Most e-commerce brands track their email open rates, click rates, and revenue per send religiously. But there's a metric that quietly erodes the value of your entire email program — and most brands barely think about it. **Your unsubscribe rate.** Every subscriber who leaves your list represents far more than a lost email address. It's lost revenue, wasted acquisition spend, and a shrinking audience for your most profitable marketing channel. Let's break down what unsubscribes are really costing you. ## The Lifetime Value You're Losing Email subscribers are among the most valuable customers an e-commerce brand has. They've opted in. They've shown interest. And statistically, email subscribers spend more than non-subscribers. When a subscriber unsubscribes, you don't just lose one sale — you lose every future purchase they would have made through email. For most e-commerce brands, the lifetime value of an email subscriber ranges from $50 to $200+ depending on your average order value and purchase frequency. Multiply that by your monthly unsubscribe count, and the numbers get serious fast. | Monthly Unsubscribes | Subscriber LTV | Annual Revenue Lost | | -------------------- | -------------- | ------------------- | | 100 | $75 | $90,000 | | 250 | $75 | $225,000 | | 500 | $100 | $600,000 | | 1,000 | $100 | $1,200,000 | These aren't hypothetical numbers. For a mid-size e-commerce brand sending to 50,000 subscribers with a 0.5% monthly unsubscribe rate, that's 250 lost subscribers every month — and potentially hundreds of thousands in lost annual revenue. ## The Acquisition Cost You Already Paid Getting someone onto your email list isn't free. Between paid ads, lead magnets, pop-up tools, and the team time to manage it all, the average cost to acquire an email subscriber ranges from $2 to $15 for e-commerce brands. When a subscriber unsubscribes after receiving just a few emails, that acquisition cost is essentially wasted. You paid to get them in the door, and they walked right back out. The compounding effect is what makes this truly painful: you're constantly spending to acquire new subscribers while simultaneously losing existing ones. It's like filling a bucket with a hole in the bottom. ## The Compounding Effect of Churn Email list churn doesn't just cost you today — it compounds over time. Consider two scenarios: **Brand A** has a 0.5% monthly unsubscribe rate and does nothing about it. Over 12 months, they lose roughly 6% of their list — and that's before accounting for the subscribers they would have gained through word-of-mouth and repeat referrals from engaged subscribers. **Brand B** reduces their unsubscribe rate to 0.2% by giving subscribers alternatives. Over the same 12 months, they retain significantly more subscribers. More importantly, many of those "saved" subscribers go on to make purchases, refer friends, and remain engaged for years. The difference between these two scenarios, compounded over 2-3 years, can represent millions in revenue for a growing e-commerce brand. ## What Brands Get Wrong About Unsubscribes Most brands treat unsubscribes as inevitable and irreversible. "They clicked unsubscribe, so they're gone." But this thinking ignores a critical insight: **Most people who click "unsubscribe" don't actually want to never hear from you again.** Research and behavioral data consistently show that the majority of unsubscribers fall into one of these categories: - **Frequency-fatigued** (40-50%) — They like your brand but feel bombarded. They'd happily stay if they could receive fewer emails. - **Topic-mismatched** (20-30%) — They're getting emails about things they don't care about. They'd stay if they could choose topics. - **Temporarily overwhelmed** (15-20%) — Life got busy. They'd come back if they could just pause for a while. - **Open to persuasion** (10-15%) — The right offer at the right moment could change their mind. The default unsubscribe experience — a single "confirm unsubscribe" button — gives none of these people what they actually want. It's a one-size-fits-all solution for a problem that has at least four distinct causes. ## The Opportunity Most Brands Are Missing Your unsubscribe page is the last touchpoint you have with a subscriber before they leave. It's your last chance (pun intended) to retain them. And yet, most brands use their email platform's generic default page — a bland confirmation that does absolutely nothing to save the relationship. Think about it this way: if a customer walked into your store and said "I'm thinking about never shopping here again," would you just say "OK, bye"? Of course not. You'd ask why, offer alternatives, and try to find a solution. Your unsubscribe page should do the same thing. ## What a Better Unsubscribe Experience Looks Like Instead of a dead-end confirmation page, imagine an unsubscribe experience that offers: - **Pause options** — "Take a break for 30 days instead of leaving forever" - **Frequency controls** — "Get emails weekly instead of daily" - **Topic preferences** — "Only hear about new products and skip the sales emails" - **Incentives** — "Stay subscribed and get 15% off your next order" Each of these alternatives addresses a specific reason someone might be unsubscribing — and each one keeps them on your list. Brands that implement these alternatives typically see **20-40% of would-be unsubscribers choose to stay**, pause, or adjust preferences instead of leaving entirely. That's subscribers (and revenue) you would have lost forever with a default unsubscribe page. ## Measuring the Impact The first step to fixing your unsubscribe problem is understanding it. Key metrics to track: - **Unsubscribe rate by campaign/flow** — Are certain emails driving more unsubscribes? - **Stay rate** — What percentage of visitors to your unsubscribe page choose to stay? - **Pause rate** — How many choose to pause instead of leave permanently? - **Preference update rate** — How many subscribers adjust their preferences? - **Revenue retained** — What's the downstream revenue from subscribers you saved? With proper analytics, you can quantify exactly how much revenue your unsubscribe page is saving (or costing) you. ## The Bottom Line Email unsubscribes aren't just a vanity metric. They represent real revenue walking out the door — revenue you already paid to acquire. And the majority of it is preventable. The brands that will win at email marketing aren't just the ones with the best subject lines or the prettiest templates. They're the ones that recognize every subscriber touchpoint matters — including (and especially) the moment someone considers leaving. Your unsubscribe page is either working for you or against you. There's no in-between. --- _Ready to turn your unsubscribe page into a retention tool? [Learn how Last Chance can help →](https://yourlastchance.app)_ --- # Why Subscribers Unsubscribe (And What They Actually Want Instead) Here's a truth most e-commerce marketers don't want to hear: when someone clicks "unsubscribe," it's rarely because they hate your brand. In fact, most unsubscribers are telling you something far more nuanced — if only your unsubscribe page was built to listen. Understanding _why_ people unsubscribe is the first step to keeping them. And once you understand the reasons, the solutions become surprisingly straightforward. ## The Five Reasons People Unsubscribe After analyzing subscriber behavior across e-commerce brands, a clear pattern emerges. Nearly every unsubscribe falls into one of five categories — and only one of them truly means "I never want to hear from you again." ### 1. "You're Emailing Me Too Much" This is the number one reason subscribers leave, and it's the most preventable. Your subscriber liked your brand enough to sign up. They were interested in what you had to offer. But somewhere along the way, the volume became overwhelming. Daily emails turned into twice-daily emails. Promotional campaigns stacked on top of automated flows. Their inbox started to feel like a firehose. **What they actually want:** Fewer emails. Not zero emails. They'd be perfectly happy hearing from you once a week instead of every day. They just don't know that's an option — because most unsubscribe pages don't offer it. **The solution:** Let subscribers choose their email frequency. Options like "weekly digest," "twice a month," or "monthly highlights" give frequency-fatigued subscribers a way to stay connected without feeling overwhelmed. ### 2. "I'm Getting Emails I Don't Care About" Not every subscriber wants to hear about everything. A customer who bought running shoes might love hearing about new athletic gear but couldn't care less about your home decor line. A subscriber who signed up for sale alerts doesn't necessarily want your weekly blog newsletter. When subscribers consistently receive emails that aren't relevant to them, unsubscribing starts to feel like the only option. **What they actually want:** Control over what they receive. They're interested in _some_ of your emails — just not all of them. **The solution:** Offer topic-based preferences. Let subscribers choose categories like "New Products," "Sales & Promotions," "Style Tips," or "Back in Stock Alerts." A subscriber who self-selects into specific topics is far more engaged than one who receives everything and eventually tunes out. ### 3. "I Just Need a Break" Life happens. Your subscriber might be going through a busy season at work, cutting back on spending for a month, or simply experiencing inbox fatigue from _all_ their subscriptions — not just yours. These subscribers don't have a problem with your brand. They have a problem with timing. And if you let them unsubscribe permanently over a temporary situation, you've lost them for good when they might have come back on their own. **What they actually want:** A pause button. The ability to silence your emails for a defined period — a week, a month, 90 days — and then automatically resume. **The solution:** Offer pause options with clear timeframes. "Take a 30-day break" is an incredibly compelling alternative to "unsubscribe forever." When the pause expires, the subscriber re-enters your list without having to re-sign up. It's the snooze button for email, and subscribers love it. ### 4. "I Might Stay if You Give Me a Reason" Some subscribers are genuinely on the fence. They haven't made up their mind. They clicked "unsubscribe" on an impulse, or they're testing whether you'll give them a reason to stay. These are your warmest leads for retention, and they're being completely ignored by default unsubscribe pages. **What they actually want:** A reason to stay. Something that reminds them why they signed up in the first place — or something new that tips the scales. **The solution:** Present a compelling offer. A discount code, free shipping on their next order, early access to a new collection, or an exclusive deal just for them. The key is making the offer feel personal and valuable, not desperate. Gamified experiences like scratch cards are especially effective here because they add an element of surprise and delight at exactly the moment the subscriber is considering leaving. ### 5. "I Genuinely Want Out" Yes, some subscribers really do want to leave. Maybe they no longer need your products. Maybe they've switched to a competitor. Maybe they signed up by accident. This is the one category where unsubscribing is the right outcome — and it's important that your unsubscribe page still handles it gracefully. A clean, respectful unsubscribe experience leaves the door open for them to come back someday. **What they actually want:** A quick, painless exit. **The solution:** Always make unsubscribing easy and accessible. Don't hide it behind hoops or dark patterns. The goal isn't to trap subscribers — it's to give the ones who _don't_ actually want to leave a better alternative. ## The Default Unsubscribe Page Fails All Five Groups Here's the fundamental problem: a standard unsubscribe page — the kind your email platform gives you by default — only serves group #5. It's a binary choice: stay subscribed to everything, or unsubscribe from everything. That means subscribers in groups 1-4 — the vast majority — have no option that matches what they actually want. They're forced into a permanent decision when their needs are far more nuanced. It's like a restaurant that only offers two options: the entire menu or nothing. Most customers would prefer to just order what they want. ## Mapping Solutions to Reasons When you build an unsubscribe page that addresses all five reasons, the results speak for themselves: | Reason | % of Unsubscribers | Solution | Typical Save Rate | | ---------------------- | ------------------ | --------------------- | ----------------- | | Too many emails | 40-50% | Frequency preferences | 30-40% | | Irrelevant content | 20-30% | Topic preferences | 25-35% | | Temporary break needed | 15-20% | Pause options | 50-60% | | Open to incentives | 10-15% | Discount/offer | 35-45% | | Genuinely done | 5-10% | Clean exit | — | When you add these up, a well-designed unsubscribe page can retain **25-40% of subscribers** who would have otherwise been lost permanently. ## What a Great Unsubscribe Page Looks Like The best unsubscribe pages share a few key characteristics: **They lead with empathy.** The headline isn't "Are you sure?" — it's "We get it. Let's find what works for you." **They present alternatives prominently.** Pause, preferences, and frequency options are front and center — not buried below the unsubscribe button. **They make the value clear.** Each alternative clearly communicates the benefit: "Get only the emails you care about" or "Take a 30-day break and we'll welcome you back." **They offer a surprise.** Gamified elements like scratch cards or exclusive reveals create a moment of engagement right when the subscriber is about to disengage. **They respect the subscriber's choice.** If someone still wants to unsubscribe after seeing the alternatives, the process is quick and painless. No guilt trips. No dark patterns. ## The Data Backs It Up Brands that replace their default unsubscribe page with a customized experience consistently see: - **20-40% reduction** in permanent unsubscribes - **Higher engagement** from subscribers who adjust preferences (they open and click more because they're getting what they want) - **Increased revenue** from retained subscribers who would have been lost - **Better deliverability** because engaged subscribers improve your sender reputation The ROI of a better unsubscribe page is one of the clearest in email marketing. You're not spending more to acquire new subscribers — you're simply keeping more of the ones you already have. ## Start Listening to Your Unsubscribers Every subscriber who clicks "unsubscribe" is telling you something. The question is whether your unsubscribe page is set up to hear it — and to offer them what they actually want. The brands that figure this out will have a significant advantage. Not just in list size, but in subscriber quality, engagement, and the revenue that flows from both. Stop treating your unsubscribe page as a dead end. Start treating it as a conversation. --- _Last Chance helps e-commerce brands build unsubscribe pages that listen. [See how it works →](https://yourlastchance.app)_ --- # Turn Your Unsubscribe Page Into a Game: How Scratch Cards Boost Retention What if the moment a subscriber was about to leave your email list became the most engaging interaction they've had with your brand all month? That's the idea behind gamified unsubscribe pages — and scratch cards in particular. Instead of showing subscribers a dull confirmation page when they click "unsubscribe," you present them with an interactive experience that's genuinely fun. And fun, it turns out, is remarkably effective at changing minds. ## Why Gamification Works on Unsubscribe Pages When someone clicks "unsubscribe," they're usually in a disengaged mindset. They've mentally checked out. A wall of text asking them to "please reconsider" isn't going to break through — they'll just scroll past it to find the unsubscribe button. Gamification changes the dynamic entirely. A scratch card triggers something different in the brain: - **Curiosity** — "What's underneath?" is a question humans are hard-wired to want answered - **Anticipation** — The act of scratching builds excitement, even for a small reward - **Reciprocity** — Receiving a surprise gift creates a natural desire to give something back (like staying subscribed) - **Loss aversion** — Once they've revealed a reward, walking away from it feels like losing something they already have This isn't about tricking subscribers. It's about creating a moment of positive engagement at exactly the point where they're about to disengage. And that moment can be the difference between a permanent unsubscribe and a subscriber who stays. ## How Scratch Cards Work on Last Chance Last Chance offers a full library of scratch card templates that you can add to any unsubscribe page. Here's how the experience flows: ### The Subscriber's Experience 1. **They click "unsubscribe" in your email** and arrive at your Last Chance page 2. **They see a scratch card** with an enticing message like "Wait — scratch to reveal your exclusive offer" 3. **They scratch the card** by dragging their finger (mobile) or mouse (desktop) across the surface 4. **A reward is revealed** underneath — a discount code, free shipping, a special offer 5. **They choose to stay subscribed** to claim their reward, or they can still unsubscribe if they prefer The entire interaction takes about 5-10 seconds, but those seconds completely shift the emotional context of the experience. ### What You Can Customize Every element of the scratch card is customizable to match your brand: - **Scratch layer color scheme** — Silver, gold, bronze, purple, blue, or custom colors - **Scratch layer text** — "Scratch Here," "Reveal Your Prize," or whatever fits your brand voice - **Prize text** — The reward displayed underneath (discount codes, offers, messages) - **Description** — Supporting text that explains the offer - **Card size and shape** — Fits seamlessly into your page design You can also control the scratch behavior itself — how much of the card needs to be scratched before the reveal, the scratch brush size, and whether to auto-reveal after a threshold is reached. ## The Templates Last Chance includes a variety of scratch card templates, each designed for different brand aesthetics and use cases: **Scratch Carnival** — A playful, festival-themed design with bright colors and celebratory animations. Great for brands with a fun, energetic personality. **Scratch Lottery** — A lottery ticket-inspired design that taps into the excitement of winning. The familiar format instantly communicates "you could win something." **Scratch Cosmic** — A space-themed design with deep purples and starfield effects. Perfect for brands that want to feel premium and modern. **Scratch Neon** — Bold neon colors on a dark background. Attention-grabbing and impossible to ignore. **Scratch Vegas** — Casino-inspired glamour with gold accents. Creates a high-stakes feel that makes the reward feel more valuable. **Scratch Lucky** — A clean, luck-themed design that feels optimistic and inviting. Works well for a wide range of brands. Each template also comes in an "exit" variant — a version specifically designed for the unsubscribe flow that pairs the scratch card with messaging around staying subscribed. ## Why Scratch Cards Outperform Static Offers You might be thinking: "Why not just show the discount code directly? Why add the scratch card layer?" The data tells a compelling story. Scratch cards consistently outperform static discount offers on unsubscribe pages for several reasons: ### 1. Higher Engagement Rate A static "Stay and get 15% off" message is easy to scroll past. A scratch card demands interaction. Subscribers who might have ignored a text-based offer will scratch the card simply because the urge to reveal what's underneath is so strong. ### 2. Perceived Value Is Higher A discount code displayed in plain text feels like a mass offer — because it usually is. The same discount code revealed through a scratch card feels _earned_. The subscriber did something to get it. That perceived effort, however small, makes the reward feel more valuable and more personal. ### 3. Emotional State Shift The few seconds spent scratching fundamentally change the subscriber's emotional state. They arrived at the page feeling disengaged or frustrated. The scratching interaction creates a brief moment of play and excitement. By the time the reward is revealed, they're in a completely different headspace — one that's much more receptive to staying subscribed. ### 4. The "Sunk Cost" Effect Once a subscriber has scratched the card and revealed a reward, leaving it unclaimed feels wasteful. It's a subtle but powerful psychological nudge. "I already have this 20% off code — I might as well keep my subscription and use it." ## Best Practices for Scratch Card Unsubscribe Pages Based on what works best across the brands using Last Chance, here are some tips for getting the most out of scratch card templates: ### Make the Reward Worth It The offer revealed under the scratch card should feel genuinely valuable. A 5% discount probably isn't going to change anyone's mind. Consider: - **15-25% off** their next order - **Free shipping** on their next purchase - **Early access** to an upcoming sale or product launch - **A free gift** with their next order The reward needs to be compelling enough that claiming it feels like a win — not a consolation prize. ### Match the Template to Your Brand A luxury skincare brand probably shouldn't use the carnival template. A fun, youthful clothing brand probably shouldn't use the cosmic template. Choose a design that feels like a natural extension of your brand identity so the experience feels cohesive rather than jarring. ### Keep the Copy Concise The scratch card area isn't the place for paragraphs of copy. The flow should be: 1. A short, intriguing headline ("Don't go yet — we have something for you") 2. The scratch card itself 3. A clear call-to-action after reveal ("Stay subscribed to claim your reward") Everything else is handled by the interaction itself. ### Always Leave the Exit Clear Never hide the unsubscribe option. Subscribers should always be able to easily unsubscribe if they want to. The scratch card is an alternative, not a barrier. This is important both ethically and legally — and it actually makes the gamification feel more trustworthy when subscribers know they're not being trapped. ### Test and Iterate Use A/B testing to experiment with different scratch card designs, reward amounts, and copy. What works for one audience might not work for another. Last Chance's built-in A/B testing makes it easy to split traffic between variants and see which drives the highest stay rate. ## The Results Speak for Themselves Gamified unsubscribe pages with scratch cards consistently outperform both default unsubscribe pages and static offer pages. The combination of curiosity, engagement, and a tangible reward creates an experience that subscribers actually enjoy — even when they arrived intending to leave. The best part? Setting it up takes minutes. Choose a scratch card template in Last Chance, configure your reward, customize the colors and copy to match your brand, and publish. Every subscriber who clicks "unsubscribe" in your emails will see your new gamified experience instead of a generic confirmation page. Your unsubscribe page doesn't have to be the most boring page on the internet. It can be the most surprisingly delightful one. --- _Last Chance offers a full library of scratch card templates ready to deploy on your unsubscribe pages. [Explore the templates →](https://yourlastchance.app)_ --- # Introducing Last Chance: Turn Unsubscribes Into Opportunities Every day, e-commerce brands lose subscribers — and revenue — through bland, default unsubscribe pages. Those generic "You've been unsubscribed" confirmations represent missed opportunities to retain valuable customer relationships. Today, we're launching **Last Chance** to change that. ## The Problem With Default Unsubscribe Pages When a subscriber clicks "unsubscribe," most email platforms show them a simple confirmation page and that's it — they're gone. But research shows that many of these subscribers don't actually want to leave entirely. They might be: - **Overwhelmed by frequency** — They want fewer emails, not zero - **Only interested in certain topics** — They'd prefer to choose what they receive - **Needing a temporary break** — They'd come back if they could just pause - **Open to incentives** — A well-timed offer could change their mind The problem is that traditional unsubscribe flows don't give subscribers any of these options. It's all or nothing — and most brands are losing subscribers they didn't have to lose. ## What Is Last Chance? Last Chance is a B2B SaaS platform that replaces your default unsubscribe page with a beautiful, customizable experience that gives subscribers alternatives before they leave for good. Instead of a dead-end unsubscribe confirmation, your subscribers see an engaging page that offers them real choices: ### Pause Instead of Leave Let subscribers take a break from emails for a set period — 7 days, 30 days, 90 days — rather than unsubscribing permanently. When their pause expires, they automatically resume receiving emails. It's the "snooze button" for your email list. ### Update Preferences Give subscribers control over what they receive. They can choose specific topics (sales, new products, content updates) and set their preferred email frequency. A subscriber who only wants to hear about new arrivals is far more valuable than one who unsubscribes entirely. ### Stay With an Incentive Present exclusive offers — discount codes, free shipping, early access — to subscribers who are on the fence. Our scratch card and gamified templates turn a potential loss into an engaging moment that can drive real conversions. ### Beautiful, Brand-Aligned Design Choose from our library of professionally designed templates or use our drag-and-drop builder to create a page that matches your brand perfectly. Every element is customizable — colors, fonts, images, copy, and layout. You can even use our AI-powered editor to describe the changes you want in plain English. ## Built for E-Commerce Teams Last Chance integrates directly with **Klaviyo**, the leading email platform for e-commerce. Setup takes just minutes: 1. **Connect your Klaviyo account** via secure OAuth 2. **Choose or customize a template** from our growing library 3. **Link your email lists** to your unsubscribe pages 4. **Set up a Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page** — paste a small redirect snippet and every unsubscribe link across all your emails, past and future, will route through your Last Chance page That last step is the magic. Klaviyo's unsubscribe hosted page feature means you don't need to touch a single email template. Every unsubscribe click in every campaign and flow automatically redirects to your custom Last Chance page. You set it up once and it just works. ## Measure What Matters Every interaction on your unsubscribe page is tracked and reported in your analytics dashboard: - **Page visits** — How many subscribers are reaching your page - **Stay rate** — The percentage of visitors who choose to stay subscribed - **Pause rate** — How many subscribers opted to pause instead of leave - **Preference updates** — Subscribers who adjusted their email preferences - **Incentive redemptions** — How many took advantage of your offers With built-in **A/B testing**, you can experiment with different page designs, copy, and offers to find what resonates best with your audience. Create variants, split traffic, and let the data guide your decisions. ## Privacy First We take subscriber privacy seriously. Email addresses are hashed for lookups and encrypted for storage — we never store plaintext emails in our analytics or logs. Your subscribers' data is protected at every step, and our architecture is designed with privacy as a foundational principle. ## Get Started Today Last Chance is available now with plans starting at **$29/month**, scaling based on your subscriber count. Within the first month, its unsubscribe rate fell **60.8%**, **42.2%** of page visitors chose an alternative to leaving, and the page directly retained **2,913 subscribers**. ## Headline results (first month) - **60.8% reduction in unsubscribe rate.** This compares rates (unsubscribes per send), not raw counts, so it is not skewed by changes in send volume. - **42.2% retention rate on the page.** Of subscribers who landed on the Last Chance page, 42.2% chose to stay, pause, or update preferences instead of unsubscribing. - **2,913 subscribers retained on the page** in month one — people who had arrived ready to leave. - **~$5,682 combined retained value** in month one: ~$2,332 in month-one attributed revenue (same basis as the in-app Revenue Impact report) plus ~$3,350 in modeled annual list value for the 2,913 retained subscribers, using synced Shopify and Klaviyo data as of June 2026. ## The problem Before switching, DailySale's default Klaviyo unsubscribe flow offered departing subscribers exactly one path: leave. At high send volume, even a small unsubscribe rate adds up to a large number of departures — and each one is a future customer the brand can no longer email. ## What changed On May 1, 2026, DailySale pointed its Klaviyo unsubscribe link at a branded Last Chance page using a Klaviyo hosted page — no email template edits. Instead of a dead-end confirmation, departing subscribers now see options to pause, adjust email frequency or topics, or take an offer, while one-click unsubscribe stays clearly available. ## Why the numbers are trustworthy - The 60.8% figure compares rates, not raw counts, so it is not skewed by send-volume swings. - The 2,913 retained is the count of subscribers who took a stay/pause/preferences action on the page rather than unsubscribing. - Revenue figures use the same attribution basis as the in-app Revenue Impact report (real Shopify order data joined to unsubscribe activity within a 90-day window). A good preference center turns an all-or-nothing opt-out into a flexible choice and helps retain subscribers who would otherwise leave. Related: [Klaviyo preference center setup](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/klaviyo-preference-center-setup), [User preferences](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/user-preferences) ## Custom unsubscribe page A branded page that replaces the email platform's default 'you've been unsubscribed' confirmation. It still offers a clear one-click unsubscribe, but can also present alternatives—pause, preference changes, or an offer—so the moment of unsubscribe intent becomes a choice rather than a dead end. Related: [How to create a custom Klaviyo unsubscribe page](https://www.yourlastchance.app/articles/how-to-create-custom-klaviyo-unsubscribe-page) ## Pause subscription (email pause) A time-bounded alternative to unsubscribing in which a subscriber stops receiving emails for a set period—commonly 7, 30, or 90 days—and is then automatically resumed. Pausing keeps fatigued subscribers on the list instead of losing them permanently. Related: [Pause subscription vs. unsubscribe](https://www.yourlastchance.app/articles/pause-subscription-vs-unsubscribe) ## One-click unsubscribe An unsubscribe option that lets a recipient opt out immediately with a single action, without logging in or completing extra steps. Keeping one-click unsubscribe clear and working is essential for compliance, sender reputation, and deliverability. ## Unsubscribe rate The percentage of recipients who opt out of a given email send. It varies widely by industry, list source, and sending frequency, so brands should track their own trend over time rather than compare to a single universal benchmark. Related: [Email unsubscribe rate benchmarks](https://www.yourlastchance.app/articles/email-unsubscribe-rate-benchmarks), [How to reduce your email unsubscribe rate](https://www.yourlastchance.app/articles/how-to-reduce-email-unsubscribe-rate) ## List churn The rate at which an email list loses subscribers over time through unsubscribes, spam complaints, and inactivity. Reducing list churn means keeping more engaged subscribers, not just acquiring new ones. ## Win-back flow An automated email sequence aimed at re-engaging subscribers or customers who have lapsed or gone inactive, typically with reminders, incentives, or a preference prompt before they are suppressed. Related: [Retention health](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/retention-health) ## Sunset flow An automated process that gradually reduces sends to, and eventually suppresses, chronically unengaged subscribers. Sunsetting protects deliverability and sender reputation by removing people who never open or click before they unsubscribe or mark mail as spam. Related: [Retention health](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/retention-health) ## Klaviyo hosted page A page hosted through Klaviyo that the unsubscribe and manage-preferences links in your emails point to. By placing a redirect script on a hosted page, a brand can route every email link—past and future—to a custom unsubscribe or preference experience without editing individual email templates. Related: [Klaviyo unsubscribe hosted page setup](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/klaviyo-hosted-page-setup) ## Manage preferences link The 'update your preferences' or 'manage preferences' link in an email footer that sends subscribers to a preference center. Routing this link to a branded page lets subscribers adjust topics and frequency instead of unsubscribing. Related: [Klaviyo email links and consent pages](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/klaviyo-email-links-and-consent-pages) ## Email suppression Flagging a profile so it stops receiving marketing email while remaining in the platform. Suppression is used for unsubscribes, paused subscribers, and sunsetted contacts, and—unlike deletion—it preserves history and can be reversed when appropriate. ## Revenue recovery (attribution) Measuring the actual order revenue from subscribers who chose to stay or pause instead of unsubscribing—typically counting purchases within a window such as 90 days after they visited the unsubscribe page. It reframes retention from a "% stayed" rate into real dollars recovered. Related: [Analytics](https://www.yourlastchance.app/docs/analytics)
